Rods for casting long range

Bulletproof is a very good all round rod and would be in the Class of the Slipstream or Rocket Oval to compare cost and performance.

I can't comment on the new Techniums but the older ones were not a big success and numbers seen along the dam would be a good indicator.

Raging Bull II is however in an altogether another class and fits in with the DC Light, Oval DC better in terms of pure casting performance than the G2 and possibly the Oval DC.

I however in this thread and discussion also include fishing performance along with casting performance.

The first few pairs of my newly developed rod the Hurricane 1413 have already been dispatched to their new owners.

3 piece 14' Casting Rod.

Take note....

Casting Rod, there to reach the fish 14' 3 piece specially designed blank that I had Blue Marlin make up for me.

Had members of 4 different Provincial A sides test the rod. On Average they managed 150m with M0 and a Bol (but you need a spring with it as a big bol is needed to load the rod)

These are rods that won't catch many fish but those that it does catch will mean a lot to Competition anglers.

That and that it will cast a small carp head and P5 a long way with 0.30mm line, so Bloemhof catfish beware

Dependig on your casting style I would recommend either the Slipstream or Oval Rocket.

The Bulletproof would also fit into this category.

Check the rods out on www.tacklesa.co.za ...... It's my site in development and Sealiners get another -10% and same shipping cost.

I was more referring to a fast snap cast or a progressive powerful cast.

Slower with more power then the Slipstream and a fast snap cast then the Bulletproof or the Oval Rocket.

Any rod as it is dependant on the weight you are casting. The Free Spirit HS that he doing the Demo with will cost you close to R8000

The G2 you have comfortably casts a P4 to 160m with that style and using 0.16-0.18mm

Hi guys, ive been following this thread since the beginning and been reading about distances acheived with different rods. Ive read on Sealine that the G2 13' could be casted with the overhead casting style upto 200m with a p4.5 (if memory serves right) with the correct timing. Science has proved, to move a certain weight over a certain distance, the weight need to accelerate at X speed to reach x amount of momentum to travel the required distance. It does not matter what casting style you use, you still need to generate enough handspeed to obtain the required momentum.

Maybe im dumb, but with the reels available to us, XTR RA, XT RB, I can not see this happening on the BM T53 G2 13'

Trying to achieve 200m+ distance, will only result in endless eye wraps.

Im open to any one who can take me to a casting range and prove me wrong.

Im not trying to discredit any specific fishing rod or rod builder, but my honest opinion is that the T53 G2 13' will be more suitable to young anglers and anglers who got average handspeed, resulting in not overloading the rod.

Read the quote just above your comments.

Can't recall 200m with direct overhead being mentioned but I have comfortable done 187m (PB Overhead measured cast) on a range with no Eye Wraps/Fraps using an overhead cast.

For maximum range I do not even try an overhead cast but OTG or Half Pendulum.

I have taken a lot of people casting, ie those on the threads here and found that the rods they have are not the problems but their style and especially the Timing of their casts is a problem.

In fact of 5 I took not one needed a new rod to achieve distance they just needed to learn how to cast their own rods properly and use them to their full potential.

My personal G2 I have shortened the tip by 5cm and cast it as hard as I want with never a line Wrap, they are built using Fuji's NGC Placement Software with LCAG guides.

I don't fish with them anymore as I am using the Oval DC which has a faster recovery.

The G3 SS Hurricane 4.3m is now my long range rod.

Furthermore one must differentiate between a rod for pure distance.... Then the G3 4.3m POLE whch is purely long range and is a terrible fishing rod for small hooks and Carp

Differentiate between Specimen long Range Rig for 3-5oz rigs or Bank Angling 1/2-3/4oz plus feed casting

The origin of this thread is Long Range Casting for Bank Angling weights and rigs not long range casting with P5 or Spomb.

With a M0-M1.5 you will still have to go a long way to find a rod that outperforms the G2 12 and 13'Blue Marlin Blanks.

The reason I use the oval is it casts from a M00 - 4oz for bank angling making it a more versatile rod.

Thanks for the feedback. You definitely did say 200m plus I can copy and paste your comment.
.testing this rod I could not find much difference between the G2(13) and pioneer hmg carp wich is a bit of a bummer comparing R2200 to R550

Sorry for my ignorance, but I took the liberty as to take a screenshot of you mentioning that 200m is achievable with the G2 13'.

Thanks for that.

Don't have the time to read and page the whole thread, you'll see that post is 2 years ago.

Yes in Theory possible is trajectory etc is correct it is possible. If you read further I mentioned CORRECT Trajectory, Release (=Timing) and THIN Line (=0.12-0.14mm)

180m+ by all the owners of G2's in the current Protea team measured.

The modified G2's that Louwtjie's dad built the Spomb rods on cast a spomb over 150m so a weight and a thin line will go pretty much further.

Lastly if you do the cast correctly with a lot of power and speed and don't jerk the cast you will have NO line wrap on guides or tips as the NGC Guide Placement Software was used to set up the guides to a 10'000 XTR-RA

Good eveneng.

I just want to thow a spanner in the works. I'm also looking for a good bank angling casting rods that can by used for competitions aswell.

I,M currently fishing with (2x) 12" grahpite blue marlyn magnaflex carp rods. Not bad rods at all, like them a lot. But I cast around 90 meters with a p3 weight and rovex 10 pound line. I know that with beter line I would be albe to cast futher.

So I would like your advice on rods I have narrowed down to upgrade with for competition and conventional angling. Don't know much about speciman carp angling.

1. T53 13" rods.( Blue marlyn, super cast)
2. Sensation dc lite 13"
3. Shimano technium carp ( twin tip) 12"
4. Shimano beast master 12" 3.5tc.

Or must jy just continiue fishing with my trusty old magnaflex carp rods. :fst:

Thank you.

Blue Marlin Fireburst twin tip or DC Twin tip before you consider Technium.

My son of 15 fishes with Fireburst and today at provincial trials was measured at 127m with M1.5 on 0.265mm 14lbs line.

Fishing there and further with lighter line gavee him 1st place in the U/19 and 4th overall, including beating me with 30 points.

Most rods including the Bulletproof, Penn Tech Carp, Slipstream, Oval Rocket, DC, DC lite, G2, Raging Bull 2 etc have very similar abilities with small nuances in action making one of them the one for you.

It's the same as a 16 valve 1600 care, all have similar top speeds and power. Some accelerate better, some drive smoother, some corner harder so Brand and what you want in the rod and what your budget can afford will play a large roll in selection.
