Looking up , it's almost hard to Believe How stable this Kite is . I kid you Not it does not deviate from it's position By More than a foot .  KLA .

I'm actually Cheating here , showing you a photo of it Not too Far out - because if I had to show you a picture of it Out 680m- we'd have nothing to Look at on the photo!!! lolol !!

Ok , so We got the VERTICAL distance , and Stability - Now - This is where the bottle filled with Water comes into Play . To Keep the Kite the Kite DOWN, or closeR to the water , at a lower angle , converting Height into Horizontal distance . You will Not Belive how far you can Let these kite's out- the only thing stopping you would be the weight of the Line you flying with , and the Thickness of the gillie's Arms ...........

Bloody amazing how stable this kite Is .

wow

Carefull.......:fbash

I think a good idea here is to have some of that Dacron line joined/spliced and securely fastened to the Reel Spool.

This will remove the 'shock-upon-stop' hopefully the 'K........ not'      :fbash

will not part.!

my 2 cents

This is a realy cool thread! I've been watching it for a while now and had a good chat with a guy at a tackle shop in San Francisco today. He told me how they use the kites to catch tuna and showed me the clips and kites that they stock. This seems to be a real possibility if you go to places like Rooikrans or other cape point deep water spots...

DJP, Glad you are also enjoying the swapping around of ideas here.I take it you got shown the AFTCO-kites (Mostly black diamond shaped with no tail for ease of launching from a boat).I know they/AFTCO,also manufacture the Roller-troller flatline clip, and if you pop in again you could always ask the kind sir how much for a six-pack mailed to the good old RSA,.I am sure we wont struggle to get rid of those in a hurry.

Yes those where the ones. They have different kites for different wind conditions and he explained how they use the helium balloons est. He gave me his business card and told me if I want to ship stuff to SA I must contact him in person. Cool guy and he is the owner. I'm back packing at the moment so cant buy to much tackle but will organise some stuff when I get back in SA.

Imagine catching a tuna from the side:wfish

DJP ,You must keep safe and enjoy your travels.Look after that businesscard, lol.Just keep watching this forum ,those Suid-Kaap okes are very enthusiastic and  I am sure they are going to be responsible for some serious catches on kite.

I will most probably be hannes101's partner in crime with this, but it will take some time to build up the tackle and knowledge to do this successfully. Those jumping sharpnose bronzies must just keep away.

This is a VERY interesting tread.. I also find it fascinating that you can use a KITE to get to the Backline & a little further! I'm watching for more photo's and hopefully your catch guy's.

I looked into Kitefishing many many many years ago but dropped that idea like a hot potato at that stage.

Might consider it in the future again here in PE. Big Zambies you know ...

Ok ........ so , it's been a while since i posted something surrounding  Kite Fishing .

Anyhoo , after a long stint trying to catch anything , whaler convinced me to "bring the kite" .

Public holiday , and i Thought what the heck .

The conditions were perfect , wind off-shore . If the wind is too stiff , the kite suffers , and you don't really score on Pulling Power . What i have found , is the balance Between Bait and Wind Must be brought into consideration when setting out to send a bait Out .

As soon As you See the bait is too heavy , or the wind Is not putting you easily into the back line , you Need to Re-think your bait size .

I also shortened the section from the troller clip , to the kite itself . this in effect , has the kite fly More "horizontal" ,and this helps if the wind is strong .Initially when you dont get the balance right , the kite will soar to heights totally impractical , and you will Need a 8 M of Line up for Every Meter you Plan on going out .!

Another Thing you Might under-estimate , is the Kite's Ability to Pulll harder or Put More consistent pressure on your Reel ,  than anything you might Previously have hooked before .

Now this Might not seem possible , but you have to Realize the  kite has no brain , it Merely wants to pull Back at current wind speed , not giving you any slack , to be able to reel in ....

So . any doubts as to how strong a Kite is , May Be firmly silenced by the following Pic of my "new Penn 68 ". exhibits A, B, C , and D, Kas toe ...

The baits one Can Tae out are fairly Large , and I have resorted to dragging/flying /surfing the baits Out , if the wind is Not strong enough to clean lift it offf te ground  .So  the baits are lifted clean out the water , or simply Over the surf .

currently i prefer using the clip and drop method , which is all i've really attempted so far ,but seems to Work Rater well .

no more sliding , and i must admit , that extra distance is definitely wat got the more Pulls .

some of the Other guys spent the best Part of the day standing with their Lines out , and after Kiting out the bait , it was Onyly a Matter of time before we got a request from an Illegal alien .

Another strandfontein Raggie .
