Sakkie definately a bigger hook and never strike a steenbras, if its pulled you down in your rod holder its on,the drag setting should not be to loose though, then just reel and play the fish.
I make a loop through the worms head when I bait up, the worm will never slide down. If your bait is being stripped so quickly its more than likely crabs chowing the worm, some guys will use floatation, not sure if it really makes a differance.
The Hermanus plaat has been giving good steenbras and some really big galjoen the last couple of weeks, biggest i heard of was 11 kg steenbras and 4 kg galjoen ??

Stywe lyne

Hi Bacchus
Doing all of the above and even increased the hook size, still nothing.
Will try the knot story just please explain. Do you knot the worm and then slide it up the hook?

Hi Sakkie if you have Aas is die geheim by Nickie Lourens it explains it in detail how to rig the worm with the loop Good Luck

Ahoi daar. Hoop jy verstaan daai. Skree maar as jy nie regkom. Wanneer gaan jy weer gooi? Sal graag wil saam.

Guys, just a thought ( bear in mind I dont know Bloodwurm )
What also helps if you gave a limp type of bait which tends to slide down the line and form a ball in the Curve of the hook is to use either a toothpick or thin type " Sosati " stick and push it into the bait running parrallel to the line.

AS mens dit so kan noen. Hou die wurm ook mooi reguit en vang nie maklik slag om die tracelyn self nie. Werk ook goed met Tjokka en sardyn aas.

Great meeting you,Sakkie, and reckon we'll see a lot of one another at the beach, including the company of other Sealine mates.I'm down at the beach most weekends, but want to follow the fish where they're at if on the feed.We must get a nitefish together sometime when fish put in welcome appearance,as guys have been phoning me and asking for one, including Muhaha. So,let's keep eyes and ears open for productive spots yielding fish.Real Bummer about guy breaking his rod next to us.Cheers!

Hi,

Just a bit of useless info ....... years back when I still studied in P.E and was allowed to fish off the harbour wall, I met a guy who exclusively fished for steenies using SINKERS !!, I know this sounds like bulls&*% but I saw it myself. He had about 3 rods all rigged with sinkers painted white and a special trace that had a treble at the top of the sinker and another say 5/0 at the bottom of the sinker.

His theory was that the washing around of the sand covers the sinker and washes it open again, leaving the sinker semi exposed out of the sand, looking like a sand crab or mussel, the steenie then grabs it and speeds off. This might expalin when you then pick up and strike you pull the sinker free from it's mouth and bait intact.

He discovered this one day by landing a 16kg beast with red bait, only thing is the hook with the red bait was nowhere near the fish's mouth but his sinker had been swallowed and was caught in the fishes gill plates !!

Anyway, as I said I saw this guy on the wall with a big steenie and 3 rods rigged with white sinkers !!

my father in law has a way to rig it, but then there can't be peckers around. if you do it right you pull all the meat out of the shell. He then bunches this together and ties it on the hook. It should work for steenbras.

I on the other hand have my own idea that i want to try.

Take a piece of chokka... cut a 5mm X 5mm X 20cm stip.

Thread ur bloodworm up ur line with a threading needle.

Tie the line to the hook.

Thread one piece of the chokka onto the hook and over the eye. Pull the worm down over the tjokka and the hook.

The idea being the worm is a sleeve covering the tjokka all the way to the bend of the hook, with a 10cm piece of tjokka trailing below. Now you can REALLY tie that bloodworm VAS....

yip i read it there but i won't do the worm inside out. I think this is to cut down on the threading up the line and then tying the hook on bit.

Here we go , I only managed to source 3 so I think I might have been wrong , he did catch some in the 4-6 kg class as well so maybe I am wrong. Anyway he also managed some nice Kob in the 10KG since December and I personally saw a 12kg come out one night with him.

The big one was on Chokka fishing for Kob , the others were all caught on wonderworm. Pallejies is left to broken road on Baden Powell drive.

Palletjies is the short white poles(hence called palletjies) where you can park at last bit of beach before broken road travelling from Muizies direction. If you're not sure,i can always meet you down that side over weekend one morning and show you. If you're travelling towards turn off to Broken Rd from Muizies side, for about a kilometer from robot, there's continuous sand dunes in front of you and you can't get view of ocean. It's just before the dunes. In other words travelling back from robot at turn off to Broken Rd and driving towards Muizies, sand dunes are on left of you until the very first area you can park at,where you will find white wood poles(+/- 40cm high) protruding out of ground and used to prevent guys parking on beach.Hope this helps.Cheers!
