static mags vs mono mags, guess anythings better than daiwa vs shimano, so we have a dude that comes along and starts a topic about what WORKS for HIM ie. his personal preference (surely we all entitled to our preferences) and suddenly we have a mag war on our hands (waiting in anticipation for return fire) ffs people get over it, some guys like static and others like mono each have there pro's and cons

Yip one can sure smell the undertone of biasness in the beginning of the thread. Hope it ends here and not continue.

Its very rich indeed.

Eish.

This topic confuses me.

You buy a super easy spinning reel with a price premium, then you spend more money to slow the reel down?

Are you sure you are using the right reel for what you want to do?

What would the right wording be: Super fast, or, super easy spinning reel?

???????

You have it all wrong old salt, 1. What creates a healthy open forum is exactly what i have done, I have promoted a product that worked so well for me that I had to post how happy I was about and why I am so happy about. Go see a doctor, i think you need to check your eyes, you cannot read correctly, where exactly has JMAG or your name come up in my post??????????????? Are you jealous????????? In fact I think you jealous that the quick buck aint going your way...LOL.....dont be jealous, just accept it. What is strange is, out of hundreds of posts, only three people dont agree with me, but but many share the same thought...interesting. If I dont like a product , I will not like it, dont be fooled, dont for one minute think that because you say so , we must like it. You see, I dont care who you are, as you shouldnt me, I dont have to like you or you dont have to like me, so I real;ly dont care, i have far more important people in my life to worry about you and whoever doesnt like me, I have good equipment, I go fish, I catch fish, Im happy, are you happy???

We buy the quality and smoothness of the reel, not speed, the trinidad A was voted best casting reel a year back or so, by ICAST, its a good casting reel, we are making it an even better casting casting reel, by slowing a few seconds of the reel at start up, its all about the easyness of the cast...not about fitting a knobby so that we can cast like danny moeskops , tournament distances by adjust a knob during flight.......just saying.:) thats not why i fitted my mags.

Here is the same type reel that you politely posted for us, 2 things to note, it does not have a bumper sticker on the side plate and also no Knobby, amazing isnt it how well it casts.........with statics.  Point proven!

To many people have made this personal and ASSUMED (assume is to make and ASS of U & ME) that this post was delivered to Promote One Product and Knock another.

Those who have chosen to make this personal, take you Sensitive Glasses off and read the poster's posts carefully and OBJECTIVELY

He never mentioned any persons or brand that he does not like. He mentions that he has Mono Mag adjustable Mags and they didn't do what he wanted when it came to Braid Plugging with heavy tackle.

His post is about a reel set up to Plug for fish in his Home Waters.

It's not a comparison of products, it's not which is better for casting it is not which is better for which reel, it is What is BEST for his application for Plugging for Yellowtail and Garrick.

I use both, lure fishing I prefer static and for long range casting to eek out every cm I use a Monomag. Each to his own and I personally believe that to many of you jumped on the emotional band wagon and ASSUMED it was a slating of Old Salt's product, this is obvious by Jonathan's retort after he was clearly inflamed by those commenting on this thread.

I cannot believe it, at last someone who understood what i was saying, no one understands the the dynamics of what i was trying to achieve. No matter how many times I mentioned , not too compare surf casting to plugging, they still didnt get it, i fitted  my mags for a completely different reason, and i wanted to show, what can be achieved, I have always been a person of aesthetics, as you will know, so If i dont like the way something looks, thats my choice. I got the end result that I was looking for, now Im going to to start slowly scaling down, and try achieve the same results with dofferent lbs braid etc etc....its all about having fun and achieving what you want out of your equipment.

and just by the way, the mono mag I have now, might not have worked for what I wanted in those set ups but I do have a torium 14 that needs magging, its a boat reel for me, cob set up, which doesnt demand casting all day, different setup, perhaps it will be better suited for that reel.

With extensive research from overseas reel specialists, which I will not name, 1 interesting thing came out in conversation, when you have fitted your mag,the initial idea is to have your cast control (spool tension cap) completely loose and free. Apparently this can actually cause a decrease in your reels performance with mags fitted, be it mono, or static, too much float is not considered optimum, makes sense to me, but too rather try this,

1. Loosen off your cast control knob, not mag, untill you have complete lateral movement on your spool, the most you can get.

2. With your thumb on the spool, moving your spool left to right or vice versa, start to tighten your cast control knob, until you just begin to feel the movement is now stopped, at this point, you turn back your knob, maybe one turn, there should just be enough movement to move the spool a mm or so.

3. This is considered the optimum spool freespool and can actually increase your distance as thinking that a completely loose spool is better.

It becomes self explanatory if you think about it. The idea , might be to keep the spool running true rather than it having a chance to move, thereby giving more control.

Just fine tuning....
:)

To shed some light to those confused, dont leave the spool tension knob so loose that the spool can move a lot side ways it only needs a scant of sideplay, meaning you should just be able to move it to and fro so its not tight. Overtight the spool tension knob and the races of the bearings have the balls pushing against the side damaging them. A simular thing happens whe the spool if left very loose,it knocks to and fro ie left and right during the cast creating the same damage.

The function of the spool tension cap is just the vary spool tension, there is no need to overtight it or have it totally loose so the spool knock as the above will result.

So with the jmag you can have this scant of sideplay and you will be able to absolutely fully control the cast and spool speed from absolute free running beast to F1 ferrodo type braking. Again its the most effective system tested and proven world wide by every single manufacturer.

Some people dont want a hole made in the left side cover which absolutely your right.

Ultimately you weigh up what you want to achieve and go for it.

Part of the discontent with the Jmag is that I refuse to supply anyone on the forum with it as I prefer to be the sole fitter. This way I remain accountable and I know it works 110 percent effective.

Therefore people here cannot make money off you with my system hence discontent also. You need to take all things into account and use the net if you need to find impartiality and NOT this forum and clearly if you read ALL the previous threads on the Jmag and magit system you will find the same people knock my monomag for reasons which if you remain impartial makes absolutely NO SENSE at all.

So lets close this off by saying fit what you like and what suites your needs best, never settle for a half job though.

The other issue other than knocking the jmag and everypost I place these people if you go look you will, clear as daylight notice a click whom always gang up on me They abviously have a huge problem with me and the passion I have for what I do, make reels perform better. They are of the opinion sealine belongs to them and is here for their own personal benefit.

Bambooskollie asked one individual open inbiased and totally valid questions to confuse you only further what was the response ZERO.

Tne only conclusion I come to they gang up to make me look unreliabl and incompetent. Strong word yes and I will stick to my comments, the only logical conclusion is personal gain, period.

Enigma I am not being over sensative let me post comments on you, poor work etc which are very subtle and have the undertones as mentioned by more than one member on this thread and we see what your response is,? especially being your bussiness and income.

Certain people have lost the meaning of integrity by the looks, I WILL NOT fall into this trap.

I believe in transparency and humility, these things have made me unpopular here most of the time as there are members who use my services extensively for years and refer clients to me daily, there must be a good reason for this.

Sladering what others do be it even subtely as IS done here gets the message across, something I WILL NOT allow.

See this picture of magit 7 huge magnets to tame a small 15/30 spool as opposed to a smaller single adjustable magnet in tbe jmag. Just an example how do you fit 7 huge magnets and get adjustability? I rest my case as I dont think this is the right way as this thread mentions.

I challenge you to go and google this from reel manufacturers to people specialising in magnetic braking systems to ALL CASTING forums world wide and see what common message comes through very very STRONGLY, adjustability on any mag system is absolutely essential for correct function by simply bejng able to turn a dial or slide and adjuster to be able to adapt to varying wind conditions and changing terrain like fishing from surf to rocks and off a mountain, having variable control makes the ALL the difference I assure you.

Signjng off on this thread, casting and having adjustability is most important. ::tight:

Hiya Grootvis,....((goodp_

Hopefully the blinkered will see your point!!

I for one prefer the magnet inside, (as you mentioned)
Im not going to be 'tuning' or 'fine-tuning' the reel during flight of bait and sinker.

Today an awesome session at Robberg, casting the magged Talica ii.

When your footing isn't level or its dark outside, thats when the static mag comes into play...you aren't watching the sinkers flight all the time, and at night time, you sure aren't going to be seeing the sinker anyway ..... (unless you painted it with luminous paint)

Old SALT, I have to admit, I finally took your advice against the odds, and went and researched mag systems extensively, Australia and New zealand, huge LBG fishing, the static mag is champs! In the states and elsewhere, here is the true consensus and unfortunately not even you can dispute it, as it was based on findings was, Wait for it.......................drums are rolling.................getting louder.....!! Static mags are far more popular for RECREATIONAL fisher as opposed to TOURNAMENT casters. The static mag is at optimum used for a reel that is used on the same rod 90% of the time, so that the static could be set to your COMBO rather than to individual pieces, the Monomag was sort after for when there would be more rod changes and the reel could quickly be adjusted for that COMBO.......amongst the LBG fisherman, the consensus is, in fair weather conditions, the static offered more in terms of less adjusting to the reels, and unless there is a change in wind speed, the mono mag would offer adjustability , but, the range of gain from the mono against the static, was not enough to warrant fitting one, in gale winds , a cast of 50m was good, with a mono, you would only be able to cast 55m, so this will be my final statement about it. All these posts you post about google this and google that about what what the big companies fitting to their reels, is purely marketed for the tournament casters in europe and the states, japan etc...there is no real demand for them in SA, and as the majority of fisherman in this country are recreational, a static mag would be be perfect unless, like some guys, Bambooskollie, craig, henning who KNOW how to use a monomag correctly! BTW, these are all comments from actual fisherman, fishing all day for days, giving a true account of actual conditions and facts, not sitting in an office sucking it out of their thumbs. So maybe change your marketing for your product for distance casting and not recreational, Dont shoot me, im just the messenger, looking after my own interests and investments. Im glad that some of my posts relate directly to this and now the recreational fisherman can decide what is going to be best for their set ups. P.S Please stop telling us how people continuously try to defame you and your product, its old and boring, and at this stage Im willing to pay someone to go see you to make sure emotionally you are ok, because it concerns me that you not.  Also, stop telling people to go to your facebook page all the time, its only because there you have control of what you say and dont have to deal with negative but constructive critism. Thats it, there is nothing more to say, i think each and every aspect of my post have been covered and also enlightening and i will continue to strive to modify and , learn and tune my reels until 100% satisfaction in all departments is achieved. So far , so good. Take my advice for a change, go google Mono vs static mag, you'll be surprised what comes up! Good night and good bye. And im really signing off this topic now!

Nice pic of reel, as far as i know most reels have 2 , 1, 3 magnets, but guess what, its as easy as 123 to take those magnets out and fit a stronger one, as simple as that!
