Female Raggie caught on a live mullet(30cm) at BWB on an incoming tide.

Pre-Caudal length 2,13m and she was tagged at Durban in 2006.

Boatman what sort of trace were you using to swim the mullet?

Hi aqua,

This was a long time ago (2008) but if I remember correctly it was the standard sliding trace I always used:

Non-return clip with coated stranded wire and 2 Mustad J hooks in 10"o". Live mullet of about 30cm we caught in Swartkops earlier that morning. One J-hook in the top lip and one on the back close to the dorsal fin.

Took about 45mins to land the beauty

they are talking about swimbaits in this thread, meaning (usually) a LARGE livebait that is free-swimming with hooks and trace going directly to the leader without sinker etc

I finally swam a bait !!!!!! With my tor50 and shark extreme heavy..... Bait of choice 9 kg smoothy. I got my ass handed to me on a plate........took about 500m of line and spate the bait, only the tail of the smoothy came back.....
I will just have to try again

Just a quick question what should I swim out in Richardsbay area?

There's lots of small sharks in the bay area can I swim one or just cut it up and slide it rather?

If fishing in the bay you cant beat a grey shark of between 5 and 15kg. The zambis snap those up like ouma se koeksisters at a family reunion. But a connection of mine also got given carrots with a 30kg diamond. He got taken around a marker buoy and got cut off. If fishing in the surf I would agree with Enigma.

Where in the bay do you guys normally fish from?
Kasarienas is dead and shakies rocks is over crowded this time of the year I want to get to that beach behind south pier

I haven't fished the bay for a while but Cassarinas is most definitely not dead. On the weekend there has been some greys caught the biggest being 53kg and another one of 21kg. Photos compliments of Salt Fishing South Africa.
