who has actualy caught a shark on a swimbait?

Does a mullet count as a swimbait? 
Chomps.. plenty!!! on sandies and smoothies.....
Havent got the heart to swim a Diamond...or any type of ray!
I know Noweeds can tell of some pretty freaky encounters with some big busses, of small bronzies being chomped up and amongst other types of swimbaits and rigs used!

I have yet to land a fish on a swim bait. Had fish on for more than 5 hours. I have been beaten on several occasion at Hole. But then again to challenge a big nunu in the Kei with no beaches around can be quite a challenge. I reckon that Mazeppa would be a spot in the Kei with your best chance to land the fish.
Someone give that man a black magic harness and a fighting chair, that Marlin is on the move....
I cannot believe the success rate on swim baits is this bad.... I see what you saying now whaler, there will definately be a couple of them big boys swimming around with a trace trailing behind them...

Zambezi in my avatar on a milky and the most embarrasing (no photo) was a 45kg Zambi on a 50kg Diamond. The diamond got smashed by a school of Zambezis and the smallest one got the chunk with the hook in.
One which can't be spoken about,
2 x Raggies and they weren't even big, biggest was only 205cm
BUT - 30 other Swimbaits picked up - Diamonds, Garrick, Grey Sharks and 30 heart sore stories.
High rocks of KZN South Coast swam a Grey, got picked up on a Daiwa 900h filled with 100lbs Dacron, emptied in one long and slow run
Splash rock off South Coast, swam a grey got picked up and eventually lost the fish at TO Beach on the rocks in front of the point (3km North)
Next swimbait off of Splash, picked up and at about 700m cut me off on the 2 pinnacles out to sea.
MOST Thankful I've been for a bust up on a Swimbait - Swam a 15kg Hammer of Skurwebankies looking for one of the 200kg+ raggies that were being caught that week...... No indicators, nothing, rod pulled flat and when I tightened up a 400kg+ jumping fish of sorts jumped out, wrapped my 2mm leade and bust me off - Phewwwwww that was close to getting a hiding on a Tor50

I have come to the conclusion that swimbaiting is not something to be done with std competition rated tackle.
That's why I got a Lever Drag 2 speed but as Tuna is busy finding out on the wild coast at the moment, the bigger the bait the bigger the bite and the bigger the hiding

Enigma that is unbeleivable... a person has to ask, when is enough enough... To get spooled on a Daiwa 900H?? OH MY WORD... Must have been an amazing experience though
Enigma, any chance you could run us through some of the traces and trace materials you use for those monsters, also could you give your input on hook placements, this seems to be a grey area still
I'm beginning to think my new Tyrnos 50 and Sharke Extreme Heavy are going to become ornaments if that is the success rate..LOL

This will piss some Guys off , but I wont mind if they ban the use of swim baits above 5kg.
You will get much more hidings than pics and in my book loosing a fish doesn't make us hero's.Whats the difference than shooting a buck in the stomach or hooking a monster and leaving it trailing 300m of line behind it.Sorry that's the reality.
I dont like swim baits offcourse a shad or mullet for cob or leervis is another story, those fish can be landed.

BLIKEMMER !!! Now that is 1 far walk with a fish on and not the easiest of walks to get around and over all of the rocks in between Splash and TO ... I mean, 1stly you have to get from Splash to Suicide rock, then around the point, across Lucky dip, around beach point, across the beach with all the bathers, through the lagoon, along about 1.5km of jagged rocks and only then do you get to TO ...
