Another very weird catch has come to mind...........I remember many years back, the story of a fisherman at Macassar, fishing for Galjoen with white mussel, and he caught a dcent size Dorado.............WTF ??????

This Holiday, we caught a Terapin (fresh water turtle) in the Kei river on pillie and a crayfish on black mussel at Coffee bay. Also caught a bass on bread while fishing for carp. Unlucky holiday i guess!!

3 years ago, while fishing the Breede, was waiting for the tide to drop so that we could pump prawn. Had a line in the water with Chokka.............caught an Octopus in a tea cup (was very old, like Dutch East India co old), as I lifted the line into the boat, the Octopus let the cup go, so I released him too.............he could have made a great live bait for a big Kob though !

caught a decent galjoen, +/- 1.5kg with a pilchard's tail at solitude. was still very young and learning, when my uncle asked why i was using that as bait, i said it looked nice! and +/- 3kg kabeljou on red bait at popeye. only in henties!

I got a 2kg blou kurper on nothing.
He just wrapped himself up in the line about 15m up from the bait.

N klompie jaar terug het ek by Struisbaai plaat n baie groot galjoen op n knoffelhuisie gevang.(dit was oorspronklik n gekskeerdery omdat ek nie wou inloop om dieper te gooi nie,bangat vir haai nog steeds daarom maak ek net my enkels nat.My mede hengelaar, PORRA wat ook dit kan bevestig het dieper ingeloop as wat ek kon gooi,en toe hy terug by my kom was ek besig om my vis in te bring)Jy kan jou indink wat die uitdrikking op PORRA se gesig was.

Had a few strange/lucky catches myself:

4,2 kg Gallie on whole red crab and 8/0 hook

15kg kob on sabiki rig

7 smallmouth bass in one day on white bread with cinnamon (carp fishing)

Turtle in Swartkops river on prawn (foul hooked in flipper)

3,6kg spotted grunter on live mullet

Big mud crab on dropshot

18kg Carp in the Breede near the pont on sand prawn.

Was fishing for grunter and believed I had hooked a good kob with all the head shaking and just how it fought in general

What was my dismay when I saw the Mirror carp, even though it was my PB carp at the time it didn't give me nearly as much pleasure as a Kob would have

i can vouch for that, i hooked a turtle on dropshot, fishing very light tackle for kingies, was totally smoked with the 6 pound nylon
