@Reefman

Thanks Boet i have also seen this but i find that wth my rod i somehow loose control i have been trying to fathom it out because with my sgorter rods i have absolutely no problem.You see i am very short myself so i was thinking that maybe my height had something with it and if i shortened my rod hopefully i would get it right.

What i am now going to do is practice like crazy hopefully even lift some weights and work out so that i have the power to handle these HMG rods..

Thanks Guy's for all the input...

::HCasting is a skill, similar to a golf swing! Once you have all your equipment balanced it is all about how much energy your body transfer to the rod and ultimately how much of this energy is transfered to the sinker? There is no difference between Clubhead speed and sinker speed ! Golfers achieve club head speed by using there "big muscles" i.e. their backs and legs! Purely using your arms and shoulders will make you a average caster. This is the most common fault i notice when i watch anglers cast!

The stiffness of the rod and the weight of the sinker is directly coupled ! The weight of the sinker is what you utilise to "load" the rod with(energy). The stiffness of the rod determines the amount of energy you can load which in turn determines the sinker speed when the energy of the rod is released.

The original source of energy comes from your body (casting effort), so if you get all the above right and still want to improve your casting distance, incresae your energy output, go to the Gym!

heres a qoute from 1 of the forums in the uk

"SA there are two types of anglers, "Shark" & "Edibles" most of the shark anglers use the "Sliding" method to get their large baits out to where the sharks are feeding, and cast grip leads from 8oz to 10oz , before sliding thier baits out. Greg Kellerman lives in the Strand and landed the new SA Bronze Whaler shark of 277.1kg on Strandfontein beach in April this year, he at one time also held the ragged tooth shark record, this beach is part of the False Bay shoreline, with Seal Island only a short distance off shore,a popular tourist spot to see the Great Whites, I have spoken to the gentleman, he gave me photographs of these fish, and is sending me others":).
