To everyone here on the forum, I’m  Eric Le Guyader,  owner and maker of Orionlures, I want to post the pics of  non authorized copies  of my lures seen on the south African tackle show, to inform all the members of the fishing community that some companies aren’t honest and make their business  on copies. They need to be known as  they really are.

 

I have put ten years of continuous effort into designing and improving my lures. It has been a long and hard journey to design and modify and continually modify my lures and can I say, it was nauseating for me to see direct copies of my lures after all my hard work.

 

These copies undermine  my work, my respect and the respect of all honest retailers that sell my lures and also   the respect of each fisherman that buy my lures and trust  me.

 
All I will say is that copies may look the same but they will never be the same. The subtleties which make my lures popular with fisherman all over the world are designed into the lures and cannot be replicated just from the shape.

Eric,

I hope that by now you have recieved my e-mail that I sent you yesterday, if not, please provide me with an e-mail address so that I can forward it on to you.

As I had explained in my e-mails, as well as on the other post on GTpopping, JigStar Africa has no intention of creating copies of your lures and selling them.
We had these lures made up ( 12 in total ) as high quality exmaples of poppers and stickbaits to accompany our stand as we were displaying the first truly high end Popping rods available in South Africa.

Anyone who asked at the show was told these were copies of the hand made Orion Lures, and as such JigStar Africa will not be selling these, as we have a massive respect for the business, skills and reputation of one of the most highly respected GT lure makes in the world, and we don't wish to jeopardise our business by creating blatant copies.

In hind sight, it was a massive mistake on our part to have these on display at the show, and I apologise to anyone who saw our these poppers and stickbaits at the show and got the impression that these were JigStar Africa original lures, as they most certainly are not.

These lures are direct copies of the Orion Lures, as one can clearly see by the images posted by Eric, and we apologise for misleading anyone otherwise.

The images put up and taken of these lures along with the JigStar Africa Logo were not taken or posted by a member of JigStar Africa.

Eric puts massive amounts of research and testing into his lures, and this shows. If you want the best lures, buy original and contact Eric directly. That is the only place you will get these lures.

Eric I would like to apologise once again for the confusion in this matter, and I hope that you will accept and understand our apology for the misunderstanding and take our word for the fact that JigStar Africa WILL NOT be creating or selling any copied ORION Lures products at any time, nor had we planned to do so.

I would like to also say that JigStar Africa strives to be an open and honest business providing top quality service and products to all our clients. We wish to operate on a respect and passion orientated basis, and hope this clears this misunderstanding of the matter up, and that Mr le Guyader accepts our apology for this misunderstanding.

Thats a pretty harsh and unfounded statement  to make on a public forum...!

If you read Mr van Wyk's reply on GTPopping forum, he states quite clearly that these lures were for display purposes ONLY and were NEVER for sale.

They were among a range of lures on display, including many other brands if I'm not mistaken.

Instead of jumping to conclusions, I think you should rather be proud of the fact that people hold your lures in such high esteem that they are even prepared to go to great cost in order to copy them and put them on display.

The important issue here is that these lures were NEVER for sale.

Another important issue is to know who you are dealing with before you assassinate their characters.

Jigstar Africa - are members of this forum - they are made up of a few highly respected individuals, of whom I personally can give shining character references for. Calling their personal integrity into question in public is totally uncalled for - this could quite easily have been settled in Private.

Funny thing is it happens all the time everywhere... cars, motorbikes,clothes everything. And the funniest part is the party that first "copied" someone else sometimes crys foul when they are then also "copied". It goes on and on. I am not condoning the breaching of property rights.

Everytime I watch schoolboy rugger every goal kicker bends over ala Johnny Wilkinson but they cant kick like him. If the originals are the best end of story. I only buy Honda motorbikes but there are many identical replicas from China on the market.

Gees, some of us even buy the jig then repaint it - dont even make  own moulds ...

This is a difficult situation as each of us work hard at our own products and skills and hope it will give us a competitive edge when fishing, as well as in the marketplace.
Jigstar are good friends of ours and they are servicing AND aiding in the development of jigging and popping in Africa.
I hope that you will also become a frequent contributor to our site and gain recognition on Sealine as a meaning full participant in our sport.
If you have protection in the form of registered trademarks and the like in place, I fully agree that it needs to be acknowledged. If not, I think Reefman has it right that you should consider it a compliment that your equipment holds such a good reputation in S.A.

I also think that improvements on products are achieved by copying, modifying, testing and talking about it, so hopefully you also will benefit from the experiences of our own jiggers and poppers.

Guys the fact of the matter is that there has been a misunderstanding created over the fact that the Poppers and stickbaits in the images shown because they were shot with our branding on a brochure behind them, they were taken as JigStar Africa were copying and selling these lures, which is not the case.

Orion Lures are a 100% original product, and the ONLY place you can get them is through Eric le Guyader directly, and I believe a few online retailers, of which JigStar Africa IS NOT ONE OF.

Everybody copies everybody in all forms of business, but its not something we set out to do.

Again I'd like to reiterate that JigStar AFrica will AT NO TIME BE SELLING Copies of Orion lures, and apologise again for all the misunderstanding these pictures created, and the percieved disrespect towards Mr le Guyader, this was and will never be the case.

Guys i am sure you all know by now that all ladies and gents that are serious into there fishing are all (mostly) a honest and friendly crowd of people.I have fished in many big big bonanza competitions in my timre where hundreds of anglers come together and share the same space and NEVER have i seen a confrontation between two anglers.This has been a misunderstanding between two people that can be resolved between the two of them.I really dont think that the rest of us need to get invoved in this dispute and pass comments.

Neps i hope you two adult gentlemen can sort this out and put it behind you.

reefman you tell me if you ran a business and some one  copies your lures ..lets say in this case my big inchiku lure for redsteenbras , how would you feel knowing that you loosing sales and money to someone else ? i dont think proud comes close .bet you jump to conclusions mate !!

The man is pissed off because he sees his lures copied and hung on display for retailers etc to view  with out his consent he has a reason to be !! Yes i agree this could have been handled diff and off forum.yes a big mistake from jigstar team . From other posts andre says he tried to contact Eric....good to know jigstar africa are not  into copying.

Mark, thats all I was trying to say!  This could have been handled very differently, and much more professionally. Andre posted this reply YESTERDAY on GTPopping. There was no need for it to be aired publicly here.
