I have tons more photos, but that's enough for now. Huge credit to Tourette Fishing for a good operation in a very difficult location. Without their help I doubt I would have made it to Sette Cama.
Big thanks to Mark Murray for his excellent guiding service, not to mention his epic photography skills, the man is an absolute legend and a very cool guy as well.
Lastly, the trip would not have been half as much fun without the 6 anglers I shared the experience with. I didn't know any of the guys when I arrived, but I left with new friends and memories that will last a lifetime.
Next up: No Boundaries Oman...watch this space

Cheers Doc. Tarpon - yes, there are plenty and they're not small either. We had a bit of misfortune to go with the usual tarpon troubles; we got taxed twice on very big fish that were well beaten. Personally I jumped 5 tarpon and got PK'd (poon klapped) every single time, with one fish being taken for dinner by a big zambi.
We had good rain only on one day, which is essential for good tarpon fishing in that area, so we had one day of tarpon madness, when they were thick and we probably had our best shot. The rest of the week it was a bit of a lottery finding them, but at least one was hooked every single day. Sadly, not one poon was landed.

Fantastic trip and awesome photos. Thanks for sharing. Seems like blanking doesn't exist in that part of the world 
nice one bud , sounds epic. pity about the poons but hey thats what they all about , crazy fish those things are.

I did not know about the rain/tarpon thing. Could you shed a bit more light on that (one day I'd like to go target tarpon).

Thanks Limpopoking, appreciate the comment. I'm no tarpon expert, so I'm not sure if it holds true everywhere. In sette cama there's a big river that flows out of the jungle into the sea, the river water is heavily tannin stained and when it rains enough the river pushes that tea coloured water into the sea, which turns the fishing on big time.
I think it's a combination of dark coloured water making it easier for predators to ambush prey and bait fish being more abundant because they get washed into the sea. Perhaps there's a couple of members that could correct me if I'm wrong.
Whatever the situation, we had one day of proper rain and 2 days later the sea was a dark colour and we had the best surf fishing I've ever experienced. When I booked the trip I told the TF guys to pick dates they felt would give me the best possible shot at a tarpon and they picked these dates for the combination of tides and the possibility of good rain, as its rainy season now in that part of the world.

What an epi trip! Def something on the bucketlist! Not just for the fishing but seeing buff and ellies on the beach is just too epic! Not to mention there are gorillas there too
Re the tarpon and the rain, my understanding chatting with firends who have been up there several times is that having a distinct colour line gives you your best chance to target them. When you get good rain and the tide flows out you get a very distinct colour line. The poon hang in the dirty water and ambush prey from there.
What rods were you guys using up there? Oh and keen for some more pics!

Thanks for the comments gents. Most of the guys used Assassin rods, which I am not a great fan of, but let's not get into that. Personally I used a Black Hole Cape Cod 106 off the beach and a Black Hole Magic Eyes 753 off the boat in the estuary. I should mention we only fished the estuary one morning due to conditions being far more favourable for surf fishing and not a lot of fish came out of the estuary. In fact, I blanked on the estuary, having missed a single strike from a snapper on top water.
Regarding costs, I reckon it's best if you reach out to Rob Scott of Tourette Fishing for accurate quotes, I don't want to put those kind of details out there as I don't know how their pricing works.

Ok cool, how are you finding the Magic Eye? Have heard some great things about them. I have a Black Hole 8'6 Nano which I absolutley LOVE! Awesome sticks!
