Have a close look at your Saltist. Also got some drainage holes. I don't own a Torium, but have heard that they also have the same.
I just got back from cast-testing the Fathom 30.... As mention earlier I have the grandwave, saltist and torium, and none of them come close to the Fathom's casting distance. The reel runs absolutely smooth and lightning fast. Although it has the centrafugal braking system one still has to thumb the reel on the cast. However if you feel that you have a well experienced thumb you can remove the brakes. Its definately worth the R1300 paid.
The egg-shaped power handle fits comfortably in the hollow your palm allowing you to generate some serious torque/cranking power. As mentioned by others that have picked-up the reel, it does feel lighter. The only draw-back is the drainage holes, but a little silicone will sort it out quickly. All in all I cant wait to get a few big fish on to test its endurance.
They do. My dad has a Tor 20 and they are covered by a small plate that is glued on.Denver1980 wrote:Have a close look at your Saltist. Also got some drainage holes. I don't own a Torium, but have heard that they also have the same.

The drainage holes are there for a reason!! DO NOT PLUG THEM. Water and sand will find a way into your reel (it's unavoidable), but if you plug the drainage holes it has nowhere to get out. Now you have an excess buildup of salt and sand inside the reel that will end up causing rust.JL wrote:They do. You okes and your bling! Reels dont catch fish!!!!
Just cause you can see how much line is left does not help on little bit.
I have Penns Shimano"s and Diawa and to be honest not one has a higher catch rate.
Its the fisherman behind the rod and reel.
But this is a sweet looking reel
