fishing rods what  to buy and what not!!!!this is turning into the ultimate angling question,

me i prefer the T53 12" fishing rod and has reached great distances with them,my advantage is my lenght, but lately i have been thinking of going over to the dc ovals

it has a great feel to it,i just havent tested with them yet

if anybody has some input would be appreciated

Having designed the Oval DC with Jan from Sensation I would probably not be the obvious person to answer this.

I have however traded my G2 13' T53's in for the Oval DC 12'6" which comes standard with Fuji guides and seat.

I also have the 10'6" which I use for salwater surf spinning and casting we got 132m with a M1 and Bol at the Casting trials on the 10'6" and 143m with the 12'6" (measured casts on a casting range (measured by lazer range finder down the centerline)

i have never casted with the  T53 12" but i do own 2 oval DC`s and boy do they cast a mile and play the fish beautifull. personally I am no real big caster but i do now with some practice start hitting the 125m mark with m0 and feed and had a 178m cast with p5 lead the other day. all I can ad is that it is for me trully a pleasure to fish with these rods.

would once again like to thank Craig for the advice on baying them really worth every penny

At the end of the Video is an Oval DC doing 167 and 196m casts and further down on the thread a series of stills of the casts:

For more of a brute the newer Oval 12' 3-5oz is a monster but not a perfect Fishing Rod for freshwater but will get as good or better distances than 90% of the rods out there.

After seeing Smitty cast my 13ft normal DC's, I think I need to practice more before I even consider splurging on the new ovals. They look very good!! I just need to get my casting technique up to scratch.

Just my 2c, I have the custom G2's from Craig and wouldnt swop them for anything.

I know a friend of mine is getting the custom oval dc's made by craig, i cant really comment much on them as i haven't tested them out, but after lots of practice im getting distances of 175m with my P4, M1 coming in at 135m and M0 im getting 120+.

Still a lot to learn from those rods, will never forget what craig told me about them, you have to have a love hate relationship with the G2's, dont sit back and just nail them, thats what iv started to do and ever session im getting more and more impressed by them

I've still got both but Nothing beats the awa-Shima 15' Skycasters for absolute distance casting

REC - those Red Rods Smitty pulls out when range is an absolute must

Hi guys this is an very interesting discussion.

I am currently waiting for western accessories to get stock of the waft raging bull 2 to purchase.

Would you guys please shed some light on these rods in comparison to the sensation dc and oval dc.

Hi YN to be honest I don't have them and haven't cast with them only the previous Raging Bulls

The Raging bulls are good range casting rods with quality finish and components and nice weight

The DC and G2 have similar casting abilities (maybe a bit shy of the Raging Bulls) but have a much softer tip with low backbone making a slightly softer rod in the tip for playing fish on small hooks.

The Raging Bulls definitely fall into the category of the thread, I have cast with them but not fished with them as I don't own them so offer reserved comments on them, in fairness to Western accessories who are the designers and distributors of the rods.

In short the RB2 should be an upgrade on the RB1 and Yusuf knows his stuff when it comes to rods so you will get good value for money there.

Hi Enigma,

Thanks for you input.

I really want a rod for those extra distances as I am not a good caster but manage to get my lines fairly far.

I know the saying practice makes perfect but I feel I am not improving could be down to my technique.

Technique is 90% but then that also hits a limit and then a balance of power and technique is needed to add more distance.

Just getting a newer better rod in 90% of instances results in ZERO improvement. Casting practise, repetitive training to develop muscle memory and increasing power is the only way.

Allesion Massa of Italy the new World Casting champ took to the Gym, changed his cast to the X Cast and not pendulum and took Danny Moeskops title this year. He did it by getting stronger, he was in the top 10 for many years but never won and did that by getting stronger.

This is to show just how much power he put's into a Cast. Previously a top Discus Thrower

Howzit guys. How will the new bulletproof waft compare to a g2 or martrix or terminator? Also what are the price differences?

1stly. The G2, Terminator and Mach 3 are all built and based on the Blue Marlin G2 blanks.

2ndly the rods are in a different class and function.

The role function and performance one should be looking at the Raging Bull range to be compared to the Blue Marlin's

I casted the Bulletproofs at the Oppidam festival this weekend. It is a great rod and has really good componentry fitted.

We were there fishing the Champion of Champions comp so my son had his 12'G2's there. He casted with the 3.75lbs 12' and really like the rod.

He is 14 and easily casted 140m with a P4 on the Bulletproof (they had a graduated casting range) but consitantly die 150m with the G2. I think more because the G2 is customed to his shoulder width etc but the G2 will give some added performance and will be a bit lighter (not that you will feel 15-20gr in your hand)

The G2 12' is however 40% more expensive than the Bulletproof.

So if 5-10% added performance is worth 40% more cost then the G2 will be the better option.

Bulletproof is a really good rod but it is not a Raging Bull II or a G2.

I have been wondering about 2 things, 3 actually. Would a one peice rod have a better casting action than a 2/3 piece?

The reel must be considered too. My standard reel is a Q. Carbo 30. I am, in my own opinion always short on distance.

Is it a big secret where the skycaster IV can be obtained from?

One answer..... All World and sa casting records are held by 2 and 3 piece rods....... Fact

Skycaster 3 and 4 are good as is the Shimano Aero but these rods retail over R3.3k.

I have been working on a rod worth Blue Marlin which is A3 piece casting beast.

A perfect range casting rod will never be a perfect fishing rod.

The operators Speed, Power and Timing had the biggest influence followed by line diameter.

This past week Marius Rusch won the Champion of Champions Tournament and I was 2nd.

We were the only people to weigh fish on day 2 and they were fish that we both caught using the Rugged Extreme 12' 2-5oz rods. We fished 125gr weights with a bol using 0.50mm casting leaders on 0.16mm C+ mainline and both of our fish came out between 180-19mm (measured) it was not a nice fight but we took top honours

Champion of Champions is where all the Provincial league Champions fish a 2 day tournament against one another.

Congratulations on your acheivement!

So, where can I find the Skymaster IV? I did send the Awa Shima boys an email to which I had no reply.

I will pay if I get the bang I'm looking for.

This would be for surf fishing exclusively. Your input would certainly be valued.
