Anyone hear anything as yet re the heavy metals in the water they reported on during the latter part of last year?

That stuff is here to stay. It is a combination of decades of industrial waste dumping combined with choked flow by the various bridges. The bridges prevent the river from flushing it out during a flood. It sits in the mud and organisms (i.e. the entire food chain) more than the water itself.

At least that is what I understood from a marine biologist who was part of a survey last year.

Just want to put the best thread to the top of the list again. Cannot believe this thread went so quiet. I have been spinning in Gamtoos, Kabeljous and Seekoei river for hours without any success, maybe that is why this thread is going down the list, nobody catching?

haha - some of us :) (not me) have too many girlfriends - so fish less - I am fishing with bait (rock and surf) - always preferred the sea to the smelly Swartkops

The fishing is still as good as ever. Everything is available to catch at the moment and some guys have landed some BUSS fish of late as well.

Hi guys, I gathered these results from  the conservancy page. Was thinking of fishing the area around amsterdamhoek off my kayak tomorrow but looking at the results I am thinking of ditching that plan. Last time I fished swartkops the water was brown and I could smell the crap in the afternoon wind.

Has there been any sort of attempt by the waterworks dept to fix the broken pipes and clean up the area? Sucks to see the river going down like this.

Even my 3 year old landed 5 leery before he passed out on the boat.
Nothing puts a baby to sleep like on a boat with some chop on the water :)

Is there anyone spinning the swartkops this dec that I could tail to pick up some tips? Im new to spinning and from pmb so dont know the area.

The water is very warm in the river at the moment and very few fish are coming out on both bait and lure.
Based on my last 4 trip this week and a half.
I saw plenty mullet being eaten but only managed 4 gurnards.
I am sure that this spring tide will cool the river off a bit.

I threw a paddle tail for about 5 hours there to day no bites, saw some KOB in the waves just left to the mouth. How far are you guys going up the river , as the pics I see from other guys seem pretty far up the river?
