LURE FISHING THE SWARTKOPS.

Today we hit Swartkops again, was me, Ethan and my brother in law Martin
We threw lures for 5 hours, Martin got 5, I got 4 and Ethan got 1 (the biggest)
Was a tough day of fishing but worth it in the end
Some nice leeries there Neilg , its awesome getting the young blokes onto a few fish .
Are you throwing bigger lures around as well or sticking to the bucktails to "match the hatch" in the area ?
Just might be the bigger fish looking for that big mullet behind the school of juvenile fish .
I haven't fished that system to just interested to see how you all go targeting the different species.
Those smaller fish would be awesome on a 1000 flicking some plastics about .
Not sure if they are available there , but i started using using the Zerek soft plastics about 2 - 3 yrs ago and hands down they are the best plastic i have used...
Great action and they can take some serious abuse. I have one on my retired lure wall that caught over 30 fish in a days fishing,Queenies,Gt's,Goldens between 1-5kg it had lost all its colour and they were still eating it .

We do throw other lures aswell, most of out success is on bucktails, which I prefer anyway
At this stage we are concentrating on 1 part of the river, but will soon start exploring and trying other areas. In this world I have to keep safety in mind aswell...
We each carry bucktails soft plastics, lipped and topwater lures with us in our lure bags.

I havent fished the bucktails to often and have always preferred soft plastics , but have recently bought a heap of them to try on my next trip .
What sort of a retrieve are you using for the leeries , working them fast with twitching the rod or just drop hop slow retrieve ?
Or is it just keep trying all sorts till you get a hit ?

vary your retrieve .... lol, I hate it when people say that !
seriously though, most hits have been on a fairly fast retrieve with a whipping actions.
So I cast, let it drop, then whip up rod tip (from about 20 degrees to about 70 degrees), as I drop rod I reel in the slack, repeat the process.
When the water is very very cold I will slow down a little
I have watched many people do the slow twitch and slow retrieve like they see on TV and Youtube, but once they see us hooking into fish they very quickly adapt the fast whip method.
Remember, this is purely for leeries.
Gurnard, cob and grunter works on the slow twitch (or whip) method, they are bottom feeders

Hi Guys, Nope sorry we don't have Tasmanian lures, must be very old lures. I remember they were very popular in the 90's for Bass. Grunter are being caught in the rivers in and around Mossel Bay in Skitter Vee's, Subwalk's , Strike Pro 5cm shrimp and basically any small lure with a lip. We stock plenty of lures. A lot of patience is also needed.
Hallo, I will be going to the Sundays River for 3 weeks and was wondering if anyone could help me with the best fishing holes on the river and perhaps down the coastline.
I was also wondering what lures would be best. I have had a lot of success on the kingfisher chaos plugs, are they recommended for the Eastern Cape?
I will be angling from my boat so traveling up or down river would not be a problem or even to other rivers such as Swartkops.
Please assist.

Look at Neilg's posts, will help plenty.
Then walk to moddervlei on pushing tide and start fishing primarily with lead heads and plastics, ensure you get down.
You'll figure it out quickly. Most dificult parts is finding the fish.

Hard luck there Splasher. Those big leeries are difficult to hook sometimes, so its a bummer he came off. Next one is yours
