Lure building.

Howzit Mikey,
I have experimented with different release agents and the best by far was vasaline. But also very good expecially when making resin moulds and casting resin in resin moulds was the clear tectyl.

It works nicely, a spray can so it only leaves a light film without brush strokes. leave it to dry for 10 min before using. works like a bomb!

In the early days I used fillers with the resin. I guess Talcum would work but it's expensive. The resin suppliers would be able to guide you on that. Now I use a casting resin called F16. Designed for this type casting. No air entrapment, sets up quickly, no shrinkage, low heat fast curing. Perfect but costly on the face of it. Cheap in the long run. You will cast a bunch of lures with ease.

1)would it work if u used plaster of paris for the mould?
bullie, if the piece being molded doesn't have undercuts (negative curves) then you could use POP but it's not a long term solution. POP is brittle, porous and takes a while to dry properly. You have to use a good release agent etc but making your own is all R & D so give it a try.

thanks alot, im already playin around.... trial and error. thanks

Thanks!
Ever tried freezing a bait fish and then making a mould from that?

Another thing. The silicone is obviously a pouring silicone, where do you get that from?
Bennie. Did you ever get around to trying this frozen fish idea? I am going to give it a bash as soon as I get some "models".

I know how to mold a frozen vissy! I'll start with a 5Kg Dorado and two Tuna of the same size. Fresh ones. ::S

You won't get them back, molding utterly destroys them.

Here's a pic of my latest 200mm lure. Da Gas Bottle. Probably my favourite.

Only 17 to go.

I got my molds prepped to build the world's first Carbon fibre lure.

Well, I've searched worldwide and the American lure builders say they

have never heard of or seen Carbon lures so I'm excited.

I first cut a few Carbon patterns and that went fine.

Now I want to cut some Kevlar which will add tremendous strength to the laminate.

NO GO!!!! Fool, you should have known better after 25 years that any used scissor will not cut Kevlar.

Need a Kevlar scissor which I don't have (new).

Project on hold!:fbash and I thought this would be first!!!!!!
