I went down the Kranz for the first time when I was 11 years old, that was 1961. Caught many fish ,We had lean years when no one went down, I would spend an entire Saturday down there and see no one, then suddenly the fish came back and all the spinner men came back. I pay tribute to some of those chaps that I remember. My Dad Ronnie Pretorius, Pieter van der Merwe (senior), Pieter Van Der Merwe (Junior), Steve Champion, John Mann, yep I still have a John Mann Spinner. Louie Boshoff, Harry Peters, the Hart Family. The Night family (not sure if I spelt there surname correct). If anyone can remember any one else please let me know. I remember sitting in the hut that has since gone and sitting on the toilet on top ledges when a swell came up and blasted me off the toilet seat. Yep, those were the good old days. All the best to you all and welcome to all the new comers to the Kranz. I will not be going down anymore as I now Live in Melbourne Australia. I went down for the first time with my brother last month after 18 years on a visit back to Cape Town and the Kranz brought back many good memories.
I really miss those old timers and the yarn they could tell.
All the best
Keith Pretorius (Down Under).
