Unbelievably its five years ago since I contributed to this thread and its still alive!
This has become a nice balanced thread since I looked here last. I went to the Krans again recently and found that the place has undergone a very big change. Firstly old Neville's energetic old body is no longer running around there, but I still feel his presence, he was just always there and despite his apparent rudeness at times, a very decent and good guy. Rest his soul.
There is a whole new generation of anglers around. Not all bad either ....LOL Even BamboosSkollie with all his different tackle is OK...LOL LOL
The spinning tackle has nearly completely taken over from the old style conventional reels. This causes different issues and problems but has eliminated the casting frustration that many felt in the past. Interestingly it also again causes compatibility issues with conventional tackle, because of the weight of the lures some use, they retrieve differently to conventional tackle, particularly noticeable in the wind. But again as long as everyone works together that is not really such an issue, just some awareness and co-ordination is required. Of course braid is another problem that comes with spinning tackle, as is too light rods.
As to the issue of mess, this is not a new problem but one very close to my heart. I once nearly fell down the mountainside at Klein Krans after tripping on discarded fishing line. That is just one problem and danger, but the appearance of discarded plastic bottles and bags and bait boxes and all sort of mess is really a sad reflection on the guys who fish there. Go and look where most of it lies on a Monday, Monday after the Week-End fishermen have been. Then come on the next week end and see who fishes in that area and who is probably responsible. I am sure some will know who the culprits are, so please guys get your act together. Don't bring it down if you are not prepared to carry it up.
This is my rant for the next 5 years.
