Yes, one to cast the resin head, and another for the plastic body. There is an insert in the resin one to allow the plastic,(and for changing body colours) however I have made a small error but will try rectify today before you guys notice. It's kept me tossing and turning all night trying to find a solution, but I think it's sorted.

Thanks tackle whore.

I like having my laptop in the (workshop) at the very least I can play CD's whilst working, other than that I can chat on skype or on email or google pictures of 'the next bait'.

It really calms me cos I play CD's, chat to the missus and friends on email and so on.

By the way guys sorry but I broke my cutlass fish blank today, the story, don't fix it if it ain't broken.

And then don't drop it on the floor stupid!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This afternoon I made another blank for my lure project. After playing with the image in my head I came up with a new shape, I think this one will be a better swimmer once it has all the bits and bobs on it.

This was the clay I used, and so far it worked out pretty well, it's very easy to model and has fibres in it to strengthen the model.
Where did you get the clay? I looked on the web but could not see a South African supplier. I have been messing around with polyester clay but it is very expensive.

Swagman I don't know of any SA suppliers but also haven't looked. I'm in the UK for the next 18 months so I got it here from CFS.

Going to try make as many moulds possible in the next 18 months and then bring them home.

I'll try make some enquiries today and get back to you if I find anyone in SA.

I was getting worried about the shape of my lure blank until I saw this one in the States. It's for sale for $250.

I eventually got my first resin cast of the cutlass head out of the mould. Now I will probably Dremel some detail into it and then make another mould and cast the final head.

We've been having postage strikes here in the UK recently which has delayed the arrival of my soft plastics, the eyes and a few other things so once these things arrive It should be a day or two till completion.

Thanks for the comments guys, hopefully not long now and I too can see the finished product.

I was running short on time yesterday but wanted to show a picture, to all the new guys out there trying lure building, don't underestimate resin shrinkage.

You will see how much the resin has shrunk in my mould after I had poured it flush with the top of my mould. Luckily this is not my final 2 part mould but was the intermediate one to get the initial head shape.

I'm hoping that buy extending the length and diameter of the pouring spout to my final 2 part mould, that any shrinkage will take place in this region. Any other tips guys will be appreciated.
