elf...

There is a bank if you park on the far right as you face the ocean at sonwabi. At spring low yesterday morning some guys were pumping worm on it, but even then the water is about chest high.

I fished a 4/0 short shank hook with a fixed snell 1/0 short shank about 4-5 cm above it facing the oposite way.

bait looked the same as yours above but i just used bloodworm, with a bit of wonderworm added on the bottom hook, and my top hook faced the other way.

Sliding trace.

The only other take i saw was about 40 yards to the right of us. In true cape town style the guys cast in and were talking about the springboks about 100 yards from their rods at their bakkies.

He was fishing one of those rodholders with the rod as a spike, and the fished nearly pulled his rod horisontal to the ground. When he got there, fish was gone. No skelm hook, but it was definately a beauty, and he couldnt have casted more than 60m.

lots of crabs around.everyone had a small float , either right against the bait or 5cm from it.looked like most people were using foam!

very good idea.surely the other crabs wont eat that.read a nice article on how to catch the crabs from the beach.will try it out next time on the spare rod.if there are so many crabs around , which i am sure there are, then maybe that is what those big steamers are actually coming there to feed on!!!

You got it spot on there gotaway.  Caught a lot of nice Steenbras on sandcrabs in Plett. Just color the crab red with mecurecrome and let dry for a min. before u cast. The Steenbras see them mutch quiker then. The Mecurecrome do wash of but the edges and legs of the crab stay red. Sandcrabs is a huge part of the Steenbras diet.

Sailfish is there a spesific way you rig it?

I'm also interested in the crab idea. Do you open it up at all coz some of these crabs are BIG!!!

Caught a crab on the weekend, was so big I thought about sliding it in. No way you can cast it, like a soup plate, even with legs bound with rubberbands!

First check to what side your hook point go,s when you put it down and the gape and point is faceing to you. Most hooks have a slight ofset that does not aline with the shank. The hook ofset must face to the bottem when it is inserted threw one of the removed back leg sokket and out the crabs perce. Now fasing the back of the crab and down to the belly. It looks like the Steenbras attack the crab from the rear and takes of with it in the mouth only. They do swallow the small ones somtimes hole and this can only done with rear side first. Same with a big  fish takeing a hole fish head first. Mutsh easyer to swallow. But i had a lot just bump my line hard and then swallow the crushed peases. Give it time and let it be. He wil pul you flat.

After inserting the hook i tie the shank and line to two legs and dump it in the mecurecrome and send it flying to the neerest bank oppesite a parrallel inshore gully.

Fish this bait with a verry slack line. Also use a long hook snout. 1meter if possable.

in namibia whe take of the top shell cut some of the legs off and crush it a bit and bind it with cotton and then fix the hook to the crab and crush it a little more the fish in my avatar was caught this way and that day there where lots of small steenies but just as u put the crab on bang the big one is on
