One nice thing about pap swaai is you can rest while you wait for the fish to bite.

Die engels vir 'n weerhak is barb -

Toe ek die vis weer hak toe kom hy nie los nie
When I barb the fish he didn't come loose... :-D

Hi Guys,
Thanks for all the tips. This is great.
I have a few questions. I fish light tackle boat but know that bank anglers have plenty to teach us.
Question 1: I see from the pictures of rietvlei trace that the rubber stopper is between the sliding swivel and the bomb. I think that having one on either side of the sliding swivel is good because it will keep the top hook closer to the bomb. Casting causes the sliding hook to slide up the line away from the bomb. HELP
Question 2: Awa Shima line. I see from the specs that its diameter is thin for its strength. I have heard that its knot strength is poor and is therefore not good for trace line. HELP
Question 3: I like to use a clear trace line because the dams I fish in have cleat water and I believe that coloured line makes the carp cautious.
Question4: I also like my trace line to be as thin as possible. After I have tied the trace the line to the hooks looks like a ball hair. What clear line can I use that lies straight after I have tied the knots or after it has had a fish pulling on it.
I eagerly await your answers.

A(1): You can do that. The rubber is called gummies and can be bought at any tackle shop. I like the sliding part as the fish dont detect anything until its hooked (my reasoning)

Question 2: Awa Shima line. I see from the specs that its diameter is thin for its strength. I have heard that its knot strength is poor and is therefore not good for trace line. HELP

A(2): Make sure that you wet the line sufficiently when tying a knot. A good leader knot is spyker leader knot. http://www.sealine.co.za/view_topic.php?id=41669&forum_id=44 I havent tried the Awa Shima line yet, you can contact Enigma on the forum if you have issues.

Question 3: I like to use a clear trace line because the dams I fish in have cleat water and I believe that coloured line makes the carp cautious.

A(3): That will be 100% correct. Some dams with clear water its best to use a camo, brown or a natural floorbed coloured line. I use XX Brown.

Question4: I also like my trace line to be as thin as possible. After I have tied the trace the line to the hooks looks like a ball hair. What clear line can I use that lies straight after I have tied the knots or after it has had a fish pulling on it.

A(4): XX Brown 3.18kg braking strain is great for hooklinks. Whilst binding your hooks to your use the following knot, its excellent! http://www.sealine.co.za/view_topic.php?id=41671&forum_id=44or you can try http://sealine.co.za/view_topic.php?id=47343&forum_id=102. Keep on asking the question and S/L will try and help were possible. PI

Hi guys

As you can see i am a starter fisherman and up to now have settled in catching catfish, however i am now looking at those big carps everyone is bragging with and have decided to try out some boilies as i have heard that boilies generally attract bigger fish.

My question is what you experienced guys thoughts are one theses and then any advise on the different methods of boilies...if there is more than one?

Thanx

welcome to sealine starter. Try the specimen section for more info on boilies, hair rigs and how to handle those big carp safely.

Have you ever tried to use a rietvlei or other "strop" with the hooks rigged hairline style ?

Do you think it will work with normal mielies, floaties and mallow's ?

The few times I have gone carp fishing, I've used a rietvlei strop made up with mielie and floaties as the hairline. The biggest i managed to bring out was a 5.5kg mirror carp. This is why I will be trying boilies made up in the "snowman" rig.I am also open to any suggestions....?

Rather use single hooks for targeting bigger carp. Check out the specimen section on fish safety.

Die oubaas se hengel benadering by die dam of rivier is as volg:

  9. Vir Babers: Groot Trosse Wurms, Karpkop of platties. [/*]
  10. Bruinbrood poliesmanne[/*]

Daar is n hele baber afdeling:
