Guide to shimano baitrunners?

Hi there, I do not mean to hijack this thread but do have a question for you learned gentlemen....

How will the Baitrunner DL2500FA & ST2500FA perform for use in salt water estuaries. Surely it would be fine with regular good maintenance ?

Your input would be most appreciated.

Thanks MJ.

Tough question.... In all honesty, fish with the reel that was intended for that type of fishing.... I don't think the drag system was developed for that type of regerous strain...

Hi there,

Further research since my last post as to whether the particular baitrunner reels were suitable for saltwater use has shown that Shimano USA actually recommends these models as being " Ideal" for estuary and bay use.

These models are apparently well used by striper fishermen in the US. I have been using them for a few seasons and have seen no adverse effects at all but I am particular about caring for my kit. I asked the question as at the time of purchase another customer in the store considered my choice as "crazy" as the reels were for freshwater use only.

Good day everybody

DL will never be a RA no matter how many bearings you replace. Body differs and one is geared and the other is run by a worm gear.

Bearing replacement in the DL is onl the 2 bearings of the main gear and is R75 a reel, replacement fee included

@ Enigma,hi then this post make no sense;;''Remember when your ST and RA start playing up or show to much play on shafts have the bushes replaced or upgraded to bearings before the excessive wear causes damage to other reel parts..'' so then i can only replace 2 bearings on the side and the other must get origanal bushes back,my reel is a DL6000RA or are you talking about a different RA

''upgrade your RA's bushes to bearings and buy another alu spool and you have an XTR''

that is a quote from Enigma, the RA cant be the XTR-RA he's talking about, then it just dont make sense _seal1_

so then which reel can you upgrade to be like the XTR

So then this statement 'upgrade your RA's bushes to bearings and buy another alu spool and you have an XTR''is wrong, because you can only changec the 2 side bearings in your DL am i correct_seal1_

That statement is correct. I'm referring to make a DL a XTR-RA in the above statement.

Forget all the names and extensions and look at price, sub R1400 Shimano baitrunner reels are geared oscillation reels and basic differences are as mentioned 1. Number of bearings and number of aluminium spools

R1600+ models are oscillated by means of a worm gear and have only bearings in the reel. The 2 models have different worm gears and different spool designs

Hannes,

If you're aim is just a upgrade, then save up and buy the XTR....RA model, you'll be amazed.... :)

But if you feel that you just want to "upgrade" your DL reels
then put in the bearings, and if you feel a deference, please post it on this thread so that we can echo the message...

Oom G but which reels bearings and wormgear wil fit,and must i change wormgear aswell, in the DL_seal1_if someone can just tell me that then i can upgrade and let you know if the DL is better or the same_seal1_

If I understood Enigma correctly, it's a matter of litterally just switching the bushes with bearings... no need for changes to the reel itself by installing the worm gear...and leave your spools as is for now...
It's a case of simply removing the bushes and installing the bearings for a smoother running setup... :)

Agree Craig...?

But save up Hannes and buy the XTR 6000 RA reels... YOU'LL NEVER LOOK BACK...!!! I use the 10000 and they're like my wife... sweet and nimble but when aggitated, will leave utter distruction and mayham behind...!:fbash LoL!

No you can never upgrade the DL to XT,,,RA. The only thing you can upgrade on the DL is the Bushes to Bearings.

The body and spools are completely different. XTR....RA spools, R420 each

The body of the XTR....RA is smaller and lighter and from different material

There is also no way to convert the Geared oscillation to worm gear oscillation.

2 completely different mechanisms.

Get a XT....RB or XTR....RA

South africa is just about the only market world wide that still sells the DL. The DL is just to provide a Shimano product that can compete with the low end very cheap chinese product.

Here is the DL
