Oom G, I have noticed that the website has two different gear ratio values. The right up for the XTR RA on the website sates it is 4.9:1 but the "specifications" tab say 4.6:1. Which is correct though? That's the question you and I would like to know.

That is the XTR-RA, they must have printed incorrectly on the side shield because they are 4.9:1. Cant imagine that there will be a 4.6 and a 4.9 in the same modes (the variation will be around 5.7cm on 90cm for 1 turn of the handle to the amount of line retrieved)

I get your point on the turning ratio...:)
Yeah well, When you buy something that's that expensive and considered one of the top contender reels, then one would expect at least the right print job on it..LoL!!!

It was just a let down when I opened it and saw I didn't get my money's worth.....that's all....:puke or thought so...
Atish...you got one as well?

Oom G, I don't have one but a friend of mine does. After I read this post, I asked him about the gear ratio and he confirmed that his says 4.6:1 on the reel as well. The box packaging says 4.6:1 as well. I asked him to send me some pics of the box, so as soon he sends them I will post them up here.

So, I got in contact with Rapala SA and this is the response I got,

"Hello Atish

Thank you for your enquiry.
I have just checked the box and the ratio is 4.6:1

Thanks

Atish.....Have a look at the 18th post on the info that Enigma send....there they also say 4:6:1 ratio to the XTR1000RA...There is a SBTRXTR10000RA....Ratio...you guessed it...4:6:1...

Now I'm totally confused....does this mean that the specific series contains 2 types within the same series of super baitcasters or is the advert just a hoax...?

I did see that as well. That's the whole reason I got in contact with Rapala SA to confirm because on the Rapala website it is 4.9:1 which they confirmed is 4.6:1 from my post 29. This image is from the Rapala website...

Ok so I went an played web detective on the gear ratio and got a reel and played around with it.

After checking 3 Shimano regional sites and 25 retailer sites it is clear that they have a standard wording that is copied and pasted into Shimano sites, retailer sites and general discussion areas which is word for word the same.

A number of the European sites have however picked up the error of the gear ratio and some have indicated it as a mistake on the original documentation.

I took a reel and tested it and it is 4.6:1 and not 4.9:1.

With a full spool, much fuller than your Oom G the retrieve per turn of the handle is 92cm and not 88cm so even though the rate is lower than on the paperwork with a full spool your retrieved line per turn of the handle is more than specified.

I will bring it to our Shimano rep's attention.

Thanx Enigma,

Well, at least We know the full story now....:thankie

I took out the reel last night and cleaned it and thought to myself,Yes, although the ratio is wrong, and the dissapointing thought of buying a porche and getting a Lexis...It's still the Lexus!..... IT'S STILL A PROPERLY GOOD REEL!!!

hi enigma
i would like to know if you could help shed some light on the question of whether the 5000 extea baitrunners spools are interchangeble with those of the gte series?

No and not the other way around either.

Both are not made anymore and the GTE spares are being discontinued.
