Berkley vs Sensation

You are now quoting and quoting and twisting my and other peoples word to saute your self, the point I was trying to make is that we are the official agent in SA, have been for a long time and are not going anywhere, and that selling and buying dodgy grey imported goods is bad for every one and not just me.

I have the right to defend my product.

Thx Neill - this list of your top five should help to limit the bewilderment when confronted with rows of racks with plastics next time. Truly handy.

I wish the manufacturers/distributors/whoever could arrive at some consensus as to graphics or legends that can be displayed on the packaging, to assist the angler.

For instance - plastic or organic, indicating rate of retrieval, re-useability, typical options re jigheads, and so on. Sure, obvious and some convered, but I hope the 'drift' is clear. Or the rip maybe?

Hi Cobus,

look on the back of the Berkley packets, you'll see that there is more info on them than any other product brand. also some of the packs have info leaflets under the stickers, on some of the packs.

Cobus,
I myself have been ON MANY occasions dazzled by that wall full of soft plastics, and have spent lots of money on it. 90% of what I bought has been a waste of money !

But now that I have grown up and the frenzy is over I stood back and really looked at it.

I came to my own conclusion and it's quite simple

A soft plastic baitfish that's too big won't attract the attention of small/med fish
A soft plastic baitfish that's too small will first of all be attacked by everything, it will very quickly be destroyed and will probably be ignored by the bigger fish.

Then further, when I get mullets in the river for livebait, when I look at RockBallies (livies ?) and all the other baitfish, they are generally in the 10-15cm range, and based on that I believe that 4-5inch (about 12-16cm) is a good allround range to have. It's not too big and it's not too small.

I have so many small soft plastics and have to say success has been very limited on the small stuff.

Lately I have slowly but surely moved on to the 4-5inch range stuff.

Once you have decided on a good size then just stand back again, some logic and decide on colours, you don't need every imaginable colour either. 4 or 5 and you are good to go.
I like darker colour for "darker" days and lighter colours for "lighter" days.
I like darker colours for dirtier water and lighter colours for cleaner water.
And then ofcourse nothing would be complete without a clown, therefore the Nuclear Chicken.

Van, let me save you the postage, where in CT can I pick up a copy? Which retailer, in effect.

I go to most tackle shops at least once a month, and I have to stock up for December anyway - leaving in 13 days time on a lekker trip.

I bought some of your product at Fishing Specialist - bloodworm and crab - and spoke to a few guys in the process, and no nonsense this, but at least 3-4 said that they struggle to work out what is potting. And I was the 'smallest' buyer of them, at around R400 bucks, and they never mentioned printed or digital material being available.

And there are many ways to distribute your material for free, one example alone would be www.freedomtoaster.org and then people can go and cut their own DVD's.

Then, which website displays the best material about Berkley, in South African context? A free website, mind you. I am not a ESA website fan, maybe because I know a bit about that industry. But here's hoping they improve over time.

Hi Cobus,

Sorry the latest DVD has not been sent out yet, it will be in the next copy of Ski boat.
but I will gladly send you a copy.

Say hi to Keith for me!

Thanks again for the advisory Neil, re sizes, colours and the like.

Much appreciated.

And I have checked their site out a few times, only section I found of any, but limited value actually, is to be found at: http://www.berkley-fishing.com/tips.phtml.

Not much of it relevant to the average SA guy, imho.

Hey Neil, you missed out the 3" Pearl White Minnow - the little bugger's caught 38 species for me now! Even the 'ol Grunter succumbed to its charm.

That I can actually vouch for, they work nicely on the Knysna lagoon and specifically for leeries. Got a couple, middle of the day and off the train bridge, last December.

I enjoyed that, Parkies present and just after they gave all the guys on the railway track some gas for having illegal bait or no licenses.

If anybody would like a copy of Berkley SA latest DVD,
Please feel free to send me a PM with your Name and  postal address and I will gladly send you a copy at no charge, totally free
