It looked that fish were on the bite, we knew this would not last forever and we quickly set the spread again. All it took was 25 minutes and this time we have a very aggressive fish coming on the Express and hooking up...

It was on Richard´s side again and again the fish went absolutely mental and shook the hooks off. Really bad luck for Richard...

We trolled for another hour, but the fish seemed to have gonne of the bite and having released his Marlin, Billy was ready to go and show off by the pool, so we made our way home early!
Not a bad morning´s fishing. Excellent spinning session a followed by a Marlin release out of 3 bites in just 2 hours of Marlin fishing...;););)

The next day we did some Light tackle spinning in various spots around the south point and got a bunch of different species including kingies, a whole lot of rockcods, snappers and garfish.

Again Billy was the big eye master...

Of course Billy could not be outdone and come up with this little jewel...

We pulled lures for Marlin for about 2 hours before getting back to the resort and raised a small Black on the bonito smoker but never really got a bite out of it!!!

The next day we started with the lures straight away up north and 45 minutes into it we got a really nice looking Marlin come in on the short. It disapeared and the it took the long, pulled 100 yards and was off.

We tried the lures another two hours but only caught a couple of nice wahoo...

Late that afternoon and after a nice lunch and siesta at the resort we went to the GAP and there were Queen mackerel (AKA Natal Snoek) all over and we had great fun catching them on the small spoons...

That was the last day in December.....after almost 90 days ando ver 4500 NM it was time to spend some quality time with the family. I still had another two charters in late January and early February.....

Went down to St. Francis to spend Christmas and new year and one day did go fishing for a couple hours late afternoon on the river.

Just ultra Light tackle for small grunter. But, when I caught a tiny stampie and put it out as live bait within seconds was surprised and hooked up and released this garrick!!!

On my way back from SA I stopped over in Maputo in early January to take care of some personal matters over 2 weeks.

Seeing the guys had been having a steady Marlin bite there I took a day off to go fishing with some mates and what a day it turned out to be!

Our plan for the day was to fish out deep between 350 and 500 meters in the área that has been producing so many Blues and stripies over the last couple of years.

However we decided to put the lines out just outside of B24 in 55 meters of water and work our way deep. I had only put two lures in the water when the Blue/white Bahama Phoebe 60 gets taken on the left long and a 300 lbs Black starts jumping on our stern.

What a start......but unluckly the hooks pulled after that first blistering run.
We worked deep and had just got to the 500 meter mark and the área we wanted to fish when the grey ghost BB on the shotgun went and in a flash we were almost spooled as a 500 pound blue Marlin greyhounded all over the ocean.

Bruno got himself strapped up on the stand up #50 and the fun began....

It was a difficult fish that did everything in the book....the fish went down, come up, run like a machine and time after time we had it just by the leader and it would go down again!

I was enjoying a lot of crazy boat driving as this horse of a fish changed direction all the time.

After a gruesome hour and a half for Bruno we finally got the fish subsided by the side of the boat and took a few pictures before releasing it...

We set the spread again and worked back to the área we initially had the strike. It took us about 20 minutes and as we got right on top of it BANG...there goes the bahama Pheobe 60 and we hook up once again!

All the guys told me to grab the rod and seeing I do not get much chances to actually catch a fish I strapped myself into the harness and got on with it....

It was a nice striped, which was short work on the #50 so I could even do it with a 2M on the other hand ☺

After that it went slow and after an hour we decided to work to another área further south and then to another área in 350 meters of water.

Half a mile from the área we had the long right express taken and this time Didi got strapped in...

Now we really got excited!

We had released a grand slam and with another 2 hours of fishing still had a good chance of getting a super grandslam, which would be the first that we know of in Mozambique!

Unanimously we agreed to go shallower and try to get a Black.

The sea had now a little chop and with an hour to go I decided to change the long right tube for a pakula Rat and bang withing 10 minutes it gets taken and a 250 pound Black starts jumping on our wake. The fish was going ballistic and jumping towards us. I guh the bat fast ahead as everyone trid to clear the remaining lines as fast as possible. Didi got strapped in and the fish was still going completely crazy to out port side when we saw the hook go flying!

It was not to be but it had been an awesome day and with a nice scotch in hand we run home!
:cool::cool::cool:

Wow, what a day.

If you had got that black, you could have stayed a little into the night and tried for a swordie! I don't even know what you call five different billfish in one day. ultra super grand slam? Well done!

I was trying to see if there was a fish on the end of the rod whilst you were drinking beer, but the rod looks too straight to me. Maybe change arms and use your stronger one on the rod...
Nah, seriously Duarte, what an epic day! Well done, and richly deserved.

Hey Fao….think it is called a fantasy slam!

Yup, could have been historic but it surely was a day to remember anyway!

With Didi & Bruno on the boat not sure about staying into the night but I really think the guys should give it a try for broadbill in that area!

BTW, a few months ago a local fisherman caught a broadbill about 100 lbs out of Vilankulos. Not sure where and what but he was selling the fish in the local market and a friend of mine bought the sword!!!
