Hi Pumamangp,

Now I am sticking my head into this....

I have mentioned before that I have only recently started with bank angling again. The other day I got introduced to specimen angling on a day outing to Struben dam and enjoyed it emensely. Very interesting and a science on its own, which I would definately like to explore in future. I for one was looking forward in meeting you and learn more on the Aqua social.

Papgooi/conventional angling has also changed dramatically and it is clear that care and safety of fish caught in general are taken much more serious than in the past. So in general both groups are taking fish care serious except for the obvious individual.

At first I thought that specimen anglers are going overboard untill I started understanding that a 40 pound carp would be extremely sensitive to the way its is being handled and there are specific reasons why you do something in a specific way. It all makes sense.

I have read through most of the threads on this forum, conventional and specimen and unfortunately individuals (both parties) do make comments that is, lets say not "thought through". Some comments totally unacceptable and plain stupid. I do not accept comments such as that as raising an opinion and can understand the response to such comments. It is very interesting that Admin in his thread mentions that it always seems to be a specific person/s that is involved in these unwanted comments.

Bruggie mentioned that I made a comment that I will not mention weight (except where a scale shows the weight) together with a photo. I will also not take a photo where lets say for argument my landing net is shown or where I am removing a hook etc. Lets call it preventative measures. I apply care to the best of my ability and to what I have available, but unfortuantely my knotted landing net and foam unhooking mat will not be acceptable to others. Yes, my knotted net and foam unhooking mat will be replaced in time with a "proper" ones. My opinion is that this is a forum and one has to be carefull of what/how you say and represent something. The same care must also be applied on comments that you make.

I love this forum and has learnt a lot from it in this few months and will be doing so in future. I log onto this forum first thing each and every morning and can not wait to get to work do so.

Cheers and enjoy the fishing!

BCEC would of been gr8 to meet you at the social but unfortunatly had to work. glad you got an introduction to specimen angling and understand why certen things are done and others not.

your foam unhooking mat is fine, you do not have to go out and buy everything that people say you must. (some form of protection and care is 100 times better then none at all)

the main reason for a knottless net is to not damage the fish scales, and im not implying that a knotted net will do this, the chances are just higher.

the thing some people dont undestand or care about is that the slime layer is there to protect the fish (thats why we always use wet hands when handling a fish) and the scales protect the fish as well, removing the slime could cause infection etc and removing a scale that does not get treated could cause infection leading to death.

the slime barier and scales are all the fish has for protection. thats why lost scales/fin damage/hook marks/any damage gets treated before the fish gets released.

im glad to see that conventional has changed dramatically, extreamly glad to see guys using unhooking mats and handeling the fish nicely etc.

as for sealine, it is the best fishing forum out there.

and as i said before anyone willing to learn and wanting to know more about specimen angling, ill help no problem.

Hi uhm guys love to join but where is it and what time and do you pay
Its has past already, sorry. But we will have more in the future. Keep checking out this section for updates. The guys are a bit quiet these days as it was a very cold winter and fishing is slow and some are busy with work etc. Even I don't post as much I I normally do...lol!

I know Zoo lake is just opposite the Zoo...lol!

Maybe ask the Specimen guys...

I think another reason it is so quiet is because its school holiday. People are running around trying to keep the kids occupied.

Hi Naruto,
