Why do Greenies or Bunny Huggers join an Angling Forum

Personally I like the diversity of opinions on Sealine. It adds richness and dynamism that one wouldn't get if we all thought the same way. Without different opinions there would be no forum.

Imfeni I couldn't disagree more with your post. I think it is unnecessary and a bit childish.

It’s your fullest right to disagree, OK maybe I am using the shotgun approach, I myself to be a nature lover I don’t hunt I rather use my camera, but I don’t go around and attack every single guy that hunts.

But I am rather irritated with people leaving comments about why a fish was not released or killed on people’s posts,  just sharing their catch with us.

If you fish no matter how good you are at some point a fish is going to die on you. It’s also in any Anglers right to keep his /her catch.

Why do you thing some Anglers never or seldom post their catch?

Further what is so great about an area being closed off for Anglers

Yes this is a forum and I am fine with diversity but “Please don’t force your opinion down my throat.

And don’t pose with a fish and tell me it’s actually GREAT when an area is closed for fishing

“I totally despise people being two faced”

Having been priviledged over a number of years to see first hand the hugely positive impacts of MPA's, I would support a partial closure of this area. If that makes me a "greenie" then so be it. I would also prefer to see fish released for the future. But its not going to stop me fishing.

A while ago there was a post by Pixel Ninja , I think , about his research trip into an MPA along the Transkei coast where they caught awesome fish one after another. Some of these fish migrate and restock areas that have been heavily fished over the years and offer a safe sanctuary that allows certain species of fish to breed and grow without being hassled by ALL OF US FISHERMEN.

If you cannot see the good in an MPA there is something wrong with the way your mind operates, if the MPA happens to be an area where you often fish or is an area near to where you live simply find a new spot , a change is as good as a holiday

Great!!

I have a lekker job allready! But seriously.
There is most likely 10km of a 60km stretch of beach that get used. Currently the estuary gets overfished of breeding fish.
90% of this area all ready belongs to sanparks where access is very limited at best. I live in a a MPA, its great, we allowed to fish, but no collecting of bait. The abundance is also great!

If it is an sanparks initiative then a totak ban would not happen. They even ask us to tag for them.

There is plenty fish in the sea!

And yes, a MPA will make the fishing better for all, not just me or you, but everyone.

And i keep fish. They taste good, being conservation minded does not mean i release everything, but 90% is far better than 0%.

Imfeni, would that be green peace or piece? I use to like the green piece very much way back then.....but now I am for peace.

Conservation will be the tool to enhance and protect some species of becoming red listed. As mentioned - diversity - we might differ from opinion on SL, after all it's an open forum, we are allowed to a certain extend to raise our opinion (Not too loud though!)

I fish, I have boats - I eat fish and love it, in the same breath some are released. So will it be wrong to slam Jannie van die Vrystaat that goes to Gouritz once a year and keeps his legal bag limit? No, it's not.....But, say for example a man living at the sea with a job goes fishing everyday and he keep his bag limited or more, and that's his trend - well, I guess, I do have slight problem with that, again it's just a personal thing, based on my morals. Are you then fishing to enjoy it, or are you fishing to keep your freezer stocked.

Hi guys. I think Imfeni is not commenting on the educated posts of Bern and Serra Moz but a tendency of harsh and bitter comments on fish caught and posted.

Typing before engaging brain type of posts.

I get facebook, email and whatsapp pics of absolutely awesome fish caught and for example one angler on this Forum shared 12 pics of 25kg+ kob he has caught this year. (All tagged and released) He's a master at it and 3 were over 40kg. He is on the forum and won't ever post a pic or share his catches with sealiners due to some very vicious attacks on him when 1 of 12 Big kob he caught in a season died. (where those commenting chose to forget about the other 11 he revived and returned)

There is a balance and a fine line to be trod here and I think that is the frustration here. I also haven't posted any of the las 15 prize catches I have caught since November as a result of this excessive behaviour.

I pretty much agree with Enigma. I follow a few groups on Facebook and there is constantly fish being posted there, and yet on Sealine the number of fish being posted has dropped a lot since I've joined.

Catch and relese is great but obviously if the fish wasn't released then I'm quite sure 9/10 times it was taken to eat. There's nothing wrong with that as long as it's in line with regulations.

Yes I made a typo and I apologized for it in the beginning of the post as I cannot correct it.

Enigma Thanks “That's my point”

Guys don’t get me wrong Sealine is an awesome forum and I have learned quite a lot from some of the posts over the few years I have been member. I belong to a club who practices measure and release, I am for conservation as anyone else, but it’s not fair to force your opinion down someone’s throat. That’s why we are seeing less and less Angling reports with awesome pics.

If an Angler did not release a fish it’s on his problem. I have found that to attack does not always work (Look what happens with post mine included on sealine) rather start a new post and educate people on why they should release without attacking the angler

Thanks Guys

In my opinion, the issue is being pulled out of proportion.Their are a lot of guys especially in the Eastern Cape area who target big kob and release 98% of their big fish catches. 1 or 2 of these fishes may die even after prolonged efforts to revive them. I am probably the most disliked member on the forum but even I understand what happens in reality because I also target big fish, whether it is sharks, rays, kob, giant kingfish, etc. Nobody ever complained about huge fish that were caught and released and I do not believe that it was ever said or implied that the targeting of big fish per say is an issue and therefore I fail to understand why an angler refrain from posting his catches because I do post my catch and releases.

Nobody said or implied that all your catches should be released. There is absolutely no reason why an angler should release a 70cm or even a 80cm kob to take home as fresh meat as long as you stay within the legal quantities.

I don’t think the site has changed, much more catching and releasing is happening than 5 -6 years ago, It’s more about educating Anglers the advantages off catch and release, but by forcing people to do so, we will get nowhere, and if an Angler does not catch and release who are we to criticize or attack him for not doing so. I think it’s in bad taste to do so.

Imfeni, in all honesty - I was just making a joke about the Green Piece/Peace, not being nasty at all!

Peace brother!
