What have you caught in your cast net?

I've only recently started throwing a cast net but so far:
Mullet
Moonies
Stumpnose
Grunter
Yellow fin kingfish (is there such a fish?)
Glassies
Blaashoppie
Crab

Not in saltwater but in fresh water have caught in my net dragonfly nymph, freshwater scorpions, shrimp, kurper, crab, freshwater mussel, carp, bass, barbel, gillemientjie, floating dead piglet and found a dead decomposing body.
Only in south africa lol
Lots of fun as a kid wading with a fine mesh "skepnet" to see what you can get.

Until you find a dead decomposing body that is.

I threw once over some shad got a net back with one shad in it and a hole in it where the other got out , they chomped my net LOL

Marble (electric) ray! Obviously got the new club member to remove it to the amusement of all the senior club members present.

It actually is illegal to throw in a harbour - especially after dark. But here is the story:

 

A chap I know was throwing for livebait in Struis harbour - there was nothing to be found so he walked to the left - waded in to his waist. And started screaming - when he finally got out of the water we found him not with a net full of mullet but with this 2 / 3 kg yellow tail in his net...

Mullet, Grunter, Baardman, Kob, Leeries, Sand Crab, Stumpies Blaashop, Grunter, 15kg Graskarp.

Worst ever throw was off Brighton pier where I caught a whole school of 3-5cm Barble and they ALL gor caught in the net and it took almost 2 hours to get them all out of the net.

Seen Big Leeries, Decent Kob and even a Raggie all caught in a cast net

It is not illegal to collect bait (ie pump prawn or use a thrownet) in Struisbaai Harbour.
On second thoughts though... Yes it is illegal, please don't pump prawns or throw your net...You will be arrested and all your belongings will be confiscated...

I netted a medium sized electric ray some years ago. The moment I lifted the net clear of the water it gave me a helluva shock through the net.
Needless to say I dropped the net. My pal didn't believe me and it was a laugh to see him experience the same treatment.
It must be that the electricity ran to earth through my body as soon as the net broke clear of the water.

About 10 years ago , netted 2 kob of7 and 11kgs right between the mullet on Struis plaat .

Waist deep on a sand bank .

A friend of mine once caught 7 juvenile Leeries at once in Witsand. I've caught pipefish, tilapia, steenbras, grunter and kob, all babies though. Will post some pics later.

The usual, mullet stumpnose, strepies.
Also got a small Grunter and once a 3kg steenie in Stilbaai river. For a moment I thought I got stuck when I netted the steenie. :)

loooots of baby leeries in gamtoos, also one season got around a dozen baby pompano there. At Kwanza threw a net FULL of little gorries/pinkies.. at least 300 of them, with a few dozen baby barbel mixed in. Also got baby permit, guinean snapper, Cunene mudfish and a few unidentifieds too
