Use of Gilnets on the westcoast

Hi Guys

Was fishing Soverby ( dwarskersbos , westcoast )  on Sunday and noticed the same old blue boat patroling up and down the beach , he was throwing what looked like gilnets which I thought was a no no .do anybody know if this is legal and who do I report this Guys to on a sunday afternoon in case it happens again.I have seen this boat on numerous occasions doing the same thing.

No wonder the only fish left there are flatfish .

Klippie they are allowed to but only for mullet. Problem is they klap the juvenile elf stukkend. If you go down to the 1st jetty under the bridge, this is where they clean the nets. MOUNTAINS of 20cm elf get taken!!!

Marthin it is a pity that the small elf get caught in the harder nets, I must say that an elf bokkom is much nicer than a harder bokkom.

they also allowed st joseph sharks!

as for the Galjoen, i used to work in veldrif and knew a few of the net fishermen, and they used to brag about catching hundreds of galjoen there at night with a special "galjoen net" used to make me sick hearing about it!!

You hear them as well if you fish Soverby at night. Black rubberducks zooming around with no lights at abour 23:00 - 03:00 in the morning near the reefs between Dwarskersbos and Veldrift.

B-Vista i understand Elf Bokkom would be nicer. But on the one morning i was there at "harvest" time, i'm certain i saw more undersize elf dead from one netting session than all the undersize elf caught in the southern and western cape during the entire elf season.
