Ace Craft with 55hp Yamahas

I always knew that the Ace Craft 660DV is an amazing hull

Following a tip off by Roger Laxson who worked for Ace Craft, I discovered that this hull has remained unchanged since the 1960's:

It was designed by Richard Cole of Miami, and built by Botved Boats of Denmark, a family business with the best of credentials, spanning a few decades

Ace Craft started building this boat in South Africa, right up to 1993, when they went bankrupt

It is actually a Coronet 21, which is sought after until today. They were all built and exported worldwide by Botved Boats of Denmark.

Dudley (Anchor Boats) has the moulds if I remember right, and also knows something about this history.

It's predecessor: first boat ever to cross the Atlantic Ocean with outboard motors: two 50 HP Johnsons....Copenhagen to New York!

The chap in the seat was a professional boat racing driver.

The oke in the middle is Ole Botveld

So in this case, Ace Craft is not the pioneers?

Oh, but they absolutely were Doris!

They found a super sucessful proven hull with serious offshore capabilities when your grandfather was still farting around on Hartebeestpoort dam in a canoe

Then they set out to further improve it:

heavier and stronger
wet deck with double scuppers each side
foam filled bottles
stainless only, down to each single screw
teak
kevlar


Because Ace Craft Marine set out to put the public in safe affordable vessels, ski boat fishing started in South Africa, and surf launching was introduced to the world.

They WERE the pioneers....period.
