The kids fished the SAFBAF U/13 tour at Bloemhof and as is my routine I booked in at a Caravan on the river at de Hoek and caught some Catfish

The kids fished Verlatenkraal and there were not many Grassies around, in fact only this 1......2.92kg, sorry but I needed bait

Thanks Tiaan

This cat fell to the head 4 hours after casting it in. the red marks all over the tail are from it having snagged itself in the roots of the surrounding trees.........took about 20 minutes to get it out but got it out, lost it's big brother in some branches later on, had it in and out over the roots till it cut off

that was a long skinny river cat somewhere in the 22-24kg class.

Later that night I landed a shorter but way heavier fish....

And another few in the 12-15kg made themselves a pest, mashing up my good baits.

JC, a nephew of my neighbour at the water was delighted when i gave him a turn to get stuck into a big cat......he was however soon on his haunches grunting and groaning and begging for help but he eventually won the fight

I set my evening rods and soon had another giant on but he took me across the river and after 20 minutes of a good tug off war he eventually cut the hook snoot off.

But not to long afterward another thickset fish had me hanging on for dear life and when I saw it was on the wat to the same obstacle I had to hang on only to have the braid broken.

This happened another 2 times that night.

I then hair rigged the other half of the Grassie's head i had in the fridge (12/0 Z steel Circle - head hooked onto a 10/0 Kendal)

I'm going to have to take the cement block with me to wherever we fish cats again, man it helps for a great pic...... I must compliment myself, the majority of the pics I had to take myself with a timer delay.

Really nice fish but not PB's but great hard fighting fish but one needs stout tackle there at the moment at the flooding of late summer exposed a lot of roots and branches that you have to pull the fish through.

I didn't fish for Carp but some other campers got 6 of between 8.7 and 9.96kg and a muddie of around 2kg
