TAGGING

I started tagging only about 3 years ago and have probably tagged 40 or so fish.  I have also returned details about 2 tagged fish I caught during that period, one of which I caught past Friday.

Hey Poly, what species of fish have you mostly tagged and where? I recently got my tagging kit and tagged a Galjoen the other day. I spoke to Colin Attwood the other day (he runs the rock and surf tagging prog at MCM) and he says that for Galjoen and even kob we should only be using "D" type tags and not the "A" type tags. I am not home now and cant recall which ones i have, which tags are you using may i ask?

Mostly Galjoen, but Yellowtail & Geelbek as well.
I use D type tags for Galjoen, but a buddy of mine says that he used A type tags for years with no adverse effects as far as he determined. He even re caught his own tagged fish.
ORI don't like to dish out D type tags or anything for that matter, but once they see you become a regular tagger, the ease up.
Don't tag Galjoen under 30cm as the mortality rate increases significantly, they say.
