After being blown out with a week of east where the sea was rendered almost unfishable due to a easterly wind & swell churning up tons of weed Saturday was forecast to swing west.
Boepens & I knew that this would spell good fishing
but both of us were doing a bit of begging
to make a way to at least get in a few hours on Saturday night. I arrived at Palm Springs and on my way to the point I could already see 2 rods, one belonging to Boepens apon arrival my suspisions were confirmed when I discovered the 2nd rod belonged to Dave Batista.
I set about rigging a Friggate and battled the strong side current to get my bait out. Rods set, now we wait:fishn
First up was Boepens who set the hooks on what was a smallish shark but the hooks pulled before we could ID it, then I had a bump & drop then Dave Batista was picked up and he missed on the double J's in a small chokka.
Next up I get a pull on a Friggate head and set the hooks on a decent fish. After a short fight I had a 183cm male Raggie on the beach.
With fresh baits out it was Boepens up again with a solid pull which then seemed to swim into my line, I quickly handed my throwbait rod to Dave Batista and grabbed my slide rod to clear it from Boeps line. I could not feel anything but shortly after Boeps mainline parted
I reeled in & checked my line for damage while Dave Batista packed up & left. I re-slid the head of a 4,5kg Kob and before stopping I was picked up by a decent fish but the 18/0 never set, I left the bait and within a minute I had a repeat. I reeled in & both Boep & I re-set our baits and that was about the time that all logic ceased to exist

But before we get to that here's my 183cm Male Raggie
