Hello Members !
Just a little feedback from yesterday's presentation by Tackle Busters. Venue was Tackle Busters, Ganies Mall, Tongaat.
The show got on the road at around 1:30pm. Refreshments & snacks were provided which kept the guys busy until the latecomers arrived. Among the group were Trevally Angling Club, Flying Fish AC, The Angling Times, Sealine, members of the public & the Tackle Busters Team.
Chris Chetty covered topics from barometric pressure & water temperature to the handling of fish when releasing. There was also an important message that was sent out to those present. It was all about education & with this new knowledge, anglers would be more successful & not to use info this to rape the oceans. I think that this is what every angler should pride himself with ... the ability to catch fish & adhere to bag limits or alternatively return what is not needed. Further to that, the ability to target specific species & be successful at it. Conservation is something that everyone can exercise. I felt that the presentation was very in-depth & the people presenting were very experienced anglers with a wealth of knowledge & a whole lot of experience to back them up.
Chris together with Suraj (his assistant) went on preparing baits for edibles, "blob" baits, combos, sardine baits, chokka, baby squid etc ... & something I thought didn't come out right, ddrrrrit baits ?!??!? Yes, I heard right, he said as soon as the bait hits the water the reel would go "ddrrrrit ....." Indeed, Chris has plenty experience & has caught plenty of fish in his time. As Captain of the Flying Fish AC, he educates his team & promote conservation.
Ten minute break - more refreshments & snacks ....
Next was Ronnie Naicker, Captain of Trevally AC(also part of the NCAU) who added to what Chris had presented & provided a few variations. He demonstrated how to join a leader to the main line using the bimini twist. How to make a shark trace, adjustable live bait trace, trap hooks etc ... Attaching nylon to nylon coated wire. figure of 8 knots, clinch knots, blood knots etc....Types of nylon, diameters, nylon coated wire, carbon coated wire, leader line etc ... Very very in-depth. Ronnie prepared baits for flat fish & sharks. It is amazing how important the little things are & that we overlook these things & reason as to why our success rate is so low. Baits used were mackerel, mullet, chokka, sardine ....
Overall it was a fantastic presentation & I was glad I attended. My advice to those who want to improve their catches is to go for these type of presentations, look, listen & practice .... Oh & don't forget to ask questions, it might be one of those little things Ronnie spoke about .... For more information please contact Tackle Busters on 032 945 3811
Thanks to the Management of Tackle Busters & their team for hosting the presentation. Thanks to Trevally AC & Flying Fish AC for sharing their secrets, Vinesh of The Angling Times (look out for the next issue.) Lastly thanks to our members & members of the public for attending.
Cheers !
