Finally using proper internet and not my crapberry. Another pic. Note the nose in the 1st pic, the fish had been injured before but still looking healthy

Judging by the tag number it was tagged recently. It's not one of mine but I'll email the stats to Stuart at ORI and await his reply, I'm not sure if he is back at work yet.

Thanks Fluke. It already had some seaweed growing on the tag though, that tough brownish/redish type you get on the rocks and looked a little old. Were you perhaps fishing Gonubie point last saturday evening?

Yes I was, I have been "unsuccessfully" trying to get my share of the Raggie smash :(

My Tags that I have not yet used are 156xxx and were issued a couple months back.
That weed can grow quite fast!!

Not in Smileys yard.

In a week that has seen in excess of 20 Raggies come out I've managed a 118cm and lost an estimated 60kg one I have no reason to smile. Admittedly I haven't put in as many hours as those who caught most of them but I put in enough hours to at least have landed one decent one so no smiling for me :( ............ but I'll get my turn and when I do I will make in count ;)

Yeah I know :spite but I was in CT for a week and Patrick snuck a 148kg Bronzie out right from under my nose and that's still on my bucket list so while I'm still there I see the weather is going to ensure point is ON when I get home and in my home waters I'll get stretched and it is!! but just didn't get the right bait in the right place at the right time......... but it has been awesome to be there and help 2 guys land PB's

I have the recapture info from Stuart and he is amazed at the distance travelled by what they regard as a resident species!!

He also asked if I could once again re-iterate that the tags must be reported to ORI.
The tags have the contact details on them but if for some reason they are not eligible then here they are:

Email oritag@ori.org.za
Cell to SMS details 079 5290711

Record the length, date and location of capture, your name, Tag number and send the info to either of the above contacts.

Good morning guys! Fluke thanks so much for going out of your way to get that info for me, its much appreciated! I was also under the impression that it was more of a resident type of shark but clearly not! Also seems I was a bit out with my measurement! Don't see how it could have gotten smaller, obviously eats like a pig taking a whole octopus! Unless it could possibly be the damaged nose on the poor thing - if you look carefully at the pic where its lying on its side it seems that it could possibly have been damaged by heavy steel trace/line when previously caught? Looks line cut into it and split it.

And as for the raggies haha I feel your pain, I was there that Saturday evening as well from 7pm all the way up util 3am and only managed two little pups didn't even measure them. I missed so many pickups though, they didn't want to commit and take off with the bait they would just grab and drop the bait. Probably small ones. I was fishing a pretty foul spot though, only the 2nd time i'd fished the point for sharks

Always a pleasure to help, the biggest reward of tagging is getting a recapture!!! so reporting a recapture is a very high priority for any tagger.

They are regarded as resident which is why Stuart was very surprised at how far it had moved, and in a reasonably short period of time as well.

Please email me pics you have preferably in high resolution and I will send it to Stuart, they often record any injuries or deformities when they tag them so it would be interesting to find out if they are new wounds.

Were you guys on the point?
I heard your ratchets going off a few times but no hook up, those faster runs are often the little greys or Spotties and Hounds.
They are definitely dropping a lot of baits and changing to soft throwbaits just resulted in a lot of sinkers getting bitten off.
I had a few occassions where I got back to my rod from helping someone and I had slack line with the sinker gone or the bait far right of where I cast it.

Just keep putting bait in the water and you will get one.

Yep we were the two guys just to the right of the two guys that landed that decent raggie on the grinder. Is it just me or has there been unusually high amount of shark activity lately? When I caught that hound at Cove there were guys there that had hooked into 5 or 6 raggies during their session just before I had gotten there (one guy fought a bus raggie for about an hour while I was there and eventually got burnt off because he couldn't get it to swim around into the bay) and then I also read yesterday about the guy that got attacked in Cintsa by a raggie. I thought the raggie smash at the point was because of the approaching storm but even before and after that Saturday it seems they've been wild! a few guys I've spoken to all have stories of how thick they've been now recently. Maybe just favorable conditions all stacked up I don't know...

As for this pics, unfortunately they were taken off a cellphone camera so they wont be the greatest but I'll send them shortly. Wish I'd taken more photos but I was in a rush to release it as the water was washing over the rock every now and then and I've already been washed off into the bay before haha. and Boepens I think you're right, it was a bit worn and scraggly at the tip of the tail
