That sinker biting problem Alton....... Solution at Raggie Hole.

Use a 90lbs Nylon coated steel sinter line with a short 0.45mm knotted section between steel and sinker.

Pups are stupid when it comes to current and surge they bite at everything and anything and invariably get the sinker line in their teeth.

At Raggie Hole there are no rocks so we use a full steel sinkerline and I landed a 40kg pup on the grapnel that slid up and over the teeth lodging in the jaw.

Lots of Raggies around because of cold water after days of East wind but agreed I've seen better conditions with far less Raggies around. Raggies are all over at the moment.

I've also been washed off of Cove Rock in some huge seas, It was the scariest moment ever.

Thanks Craig, I was discussing that with Wade as a possible solution the other day. Will definitely try it.

Apologies for the hijack, where do you get the tags etc, and is there a thread somewhere that shows you the best place etc to insert the tags on the diff species?

Contact Stuart Dunlop at ORI

oritag@ori.org.za

They have a form you fill in and you need to send a motivation letter. Then you pay about R300 and they send a Tagging kit including an instruction booklet and DVD instructing you how to do it and identifying the species they want tagged.

You may struggle to get a tagging kit living inland as I know they are reasonably concerned about having un-used tags floating around.

You apply for tagging kit from ORI. (http://www.oritag.org.za/?orimember_unsecure)

They will vet the anglers and not everyone gets to tag.

You will then buy a kit and receive a brochure indicating which fish they want tagged and where to best tag each type of fish and which tags to use.

Thanks allot was just wondering. don't get to fish near enough to be able to actually tag allot of fish, but nice to see it working.

I don't think there are any threads that come to mind that show the tagging procedure but I'm sure a Youtube search would reveal some info.

On their page (ie. the link I posted) there is a downloadable Instruction Manual for tagging as well as the Priority Species list
