lol, the grips are a bit different from the main stream ones, but im in love with mine. In natal i battle to get large baits, as i am by my own admission the worst carp fisherman know the man kind. (Although i have been getting takes just no fish) i have to come up with better ways to make bait look bigger, the one down side to the flap bait is amll fish willl tug the fillets. Try use a hard flesh type fish and you will be alright. Dam walls are an area we dont target enough in my opinion, i have a couple i wnat to spend the night on my canoe but crocodiles at the one are a major issue as the big boys also hang out here. This leads me to believe there is a large fish based food source, massive barbel perhaps. and the others ill get arrested for treason or accused of trying to blow them up like they did to me at uni when we tried. I believ the fish are resting in the deep water at the wall and move off at night to feed but should return. It is on an ever growing list of theories to test map and accuratly give you guys answers. But GC its most certainly worth s hot to go try.

Lekker report GC!!! I think Catfish Africa will organise a trip there for a nice Sealine social. Pitty about the big cats though. whe all are having a hard year due to bad wether but tides do change. Whe will be in thouch with u guys and maybe do a Bloemhof Bonanza warmup. Dorsalfin and myself also had a very hard weekend with winds that made the waves look like the surf. Btw. very nice pics!

Nice catches GC! I enjoy the passion you have for this..
Thanks for sharing with us all!!!

I decided to wet a line this weekend for Barbel again. I had no "Barbel bait" around so decided to use some old sardines that had been in the freezer for a while... Must admit, I was not very keen on this but decided to make the most of it... Yep! Barbel took them without hesitation...
Has anyone else tried Sards for bait?

I'm going to plan a night session here soon, finally I have a use for old defrosted sards....

Thanks ai,people have mixed reports of them some saying they work and others saying they don't.It probally depends on conditions. With sardinez being so oily it definantely has a high attraction.

I think a dam that is heavily fished may see Barbel becoming more weary of eating strange food items and one should rather stick with natural baits.. This dam is an un-fished farm dam of about 25 hectares.. We are starting to sort out a huge oxygen weed problem here at the moment, sadly, once done, most/all of the Barbel will be removed as they are not an indigenous specie here and we will be reintroducing some local species.. Dams has had Barbel and tilapia in it for over 30 years, keen to see what comes out here...
I'll take a camera with!!!

I've often used dry Kapenta added to a chicken liver, they soak up the blood in the base of the bait box. I chum with them mixed in worm soil (vermicast). When on the bite & you're running out of bait ive used coloured pop corn added to small bits of liver off cuts. It may even keep the bait off the bottom a little, for a short while anyhow.

nice report GC! if push comes to shove you could all ways use one of those small cats you caught and use him for bait as a last resort as ive seen some decent fish up to 15 kgs been taken on some fresh barbel fillet
