Great catchs GC and well done on the bait presentation, looks tasty :) one thing I would change is to cut off all the fins.

The order has been placed so as soon as the products land we will get them 2 you.

If you looking for bigger fish, use bigger bait, instead of half that carp rig the whole fish. Bigger baits bigger fish. Give it a try you may be very happy with the result

Great stuff, one question when rigging a whole carp say one about 25-30cm how do you kill it really fast, cause I hate it when animals suffer!

Hit the fish on the head with something hard like a pole thats the quickest way I know how to kill a fish and its the way the fish eagle does it.
the fish eagle takes the fish on a tree branch or horizontal pole fence and knocks the head which causes a concussion and the fish dies.

Nice report Gc!! Nice pics aswell and glad ur dad also went in on the cats. As rob said i always have one rod in with a whole carp and drop it in the deepest point i can find in the dam or river. Whell done once again on some fine fish and i will give u ur products very soon!!

Exiled, hit the fish on the top of its head with a priest aim between the eyes. Knife thru spine also works well.

Gc how big is the carp in the pic? Guys regularly will cut a 5kg in half and use that. Never be afraid to use a bait you think is to big.

Ja thanks,I don't really want to rig the above carp as that is big to me.I will rather try whole 2kg carp. One question about the whole carp presentation. Will it be okay if I use the same size circle and hair rig method?I will cut away the gill plates, bash the head, cut three slices in each side and maybe spray that blood spray in the gills if it arrives.I also have a question it happened once or twice that something took a plattie and when it was close to the side it just goes slack? What can that be.Hook pull I doubt it as I use circles on every bait.

When we went skiing I was not only having fun I was also scouting the dam it looks like the rock point I have been fishing is the second best place to fish. There is also a hole more to the left to the dam wall that is unreachable from the side but was about 5m wich is deep as the dam is very low the rock point is 4 m.

Where you find the deep water you find the big fish. Dont rig a whole 5kg fish, just half it and use the other half for fillets. Fish wiith bait to the size of the fish you know are in the dam or could be there. If i know there is 30kg plus fish 4kg bait is not that big, that is just over 10% of its body weight and its mouth will easily take the fish. Ive seen some of hennies private photos of a 3kg carp in a 25kg fish, but it will take you time to buil the confidence in what size baits will actually work. Its one of my favorite sayings, fish are lazy, they want to spend the least amount of energy for the moet amount of gain. If you put out a 2kg fish the fish that eats it will than not have to hunt for awhile and thus safe and censerve energy, thats what it wants to do. So a big bait is a must, a large cat will pick up a small bait if it happens to be right next to him. But more often than not the bigger the bait the bigger the fish. Also if the bait is large it wont get taken by small fish as it wont fit in its mouth. You than give yourself a great chance of having the bait undisturbed in the right spot. Out of intrest, the next time you go fishing and you cath anything up to 15kg have a look at what you can actually fit inside the mouth, you will be surprised.
In rigging the bait, skuimkop has posted in one of the post with a diagram, on a bait that big i would rather use a 2 hook trace than the rig you used for the half. But again you could teach me something and prove that it works, my rigs would be alot easier if it did. On my baits i cut away gill plate, spray dead red inside the gills, leave it for 5 min than give it a quick spray as i take it out. I would slash it as you mentioned, but also have a small cut into the stomach cavity. Let the strong scent from the guts get into the water. Use as much natural scent as possible and use the dead red as an attracter, when you first use it, dont go overboard, a couple sprays is enough to last awhile.

How quick where you striking on the plattie and how where you stiking? Could be the fish had it clamped between the 2 bonny plates in its mouth and was just holding on, as with all live bait i let my fish swim for alonger time than a dead bait to make sure it swallows the bait properly.

Think I will try the circle hair rig it makes more sense to me,you let the fish swallow the bait so two hooks won't be a problem and it works better to let the circle turn then sticking two hooks in the baits.I was waiting for a run that was longer than the rest so I know he swallowed it and the tightened the drag and reeled in.

personally i love the way skuimkop does the rig, and it is the one i use on any of my large baits and fillets. The surface area of the larger bait is obviously bigger and having that second hook gives me alot more confidence in a hook up. I have not noticed any preferance in what hook gets the most hook ups on e rig. So far i have had it pretty much even on top and bottom. My only difference to skuim is that i only use circle hooks, my hook ups are more solid and gives me the confidence to put more prssure on the fish during the fight. But try both GC, find what works for you.

What i do is have the line in the cut under the head, so its flush with the top side of the head, than just have it on the under belly to the hook. I usually cotton my bigger baits to ensure the line is as flush against the bod as possible. I have also cut a grove in tilapia and had the line in the groove, but agin cotton to close the body around the line. Skuim may have his preffered method to get the line where he has it in the picture.

How do you get the line inside the fish?

Antwoord is eenvoudig, lol. Met behulp van 'n 23 cm baiting needle. Jy kan ook 'n fiets speek plat kap aan die een kant en dan net 'n gatjie daar deur boor. Maak ook net die ander kant skerp. Werk net so goed en is baie goedkoper as die baiting needle.

Vir die wat so needle wil aankoop volg net die link hier onder:
