Die hoek Is the name of the site, so if you have booked at die hoek that is the right place. I stand crrected, but its the closet site to the wall. Also a reason I camp where ever I fish, I choose the spot I want. Also the rods can come in the tent with me. That way I'm never far from the action. But also phone the manager is more than helpfull.

Hi

Do you cast the chicken boms or take them in with a boat?

Steve

Most probably they will take it out with the boat as a chicken bomb would be to heavy to cast. If you can avoid noise and light (which most anglers can't do, lol) you can drop your bait (chicken bomb) 5 plus meters from the bank you fishing from.

Hi

This heavy line and big baits is very new to me, although I have been fishing most of my life (40+years) I always used 8-10 pound line. Obviously I have lost quite a few big fish especially in the river and I understand the concept of matching equipment to the size fish you want to catch. I only ever fished for Barbel with platties and always had good results, I find this big bait fishing exciting and a new challenge. I remember way back when anglers used to snub the barbel as all they wanted was carp, they would sit all day without a bite and I would pull in 5 or 6 barbel, who was the winner?

Anyway I am learning a lot on this forum and am planning all the time, I am about ready to do battle with one of these monsters.

Regards
Steve

Seems like you had a good weekend, is Die Hoek a safe place to visit? How big are the stands? Is it Chalets or can you put up tents?

Well done GC.

Dont worry that monster is there waiting for you. One thing i do try and do is if you are getting those size of barbel and as you mentioned is to increase the size of bait. Recently i have used my small bait but just made it bigger. Like with the grass carp you had there. If you take out the spine and have the fillets hanging of the haed you can flap them back over the haed and make a bigger in volume bait. Worked for me at albert 2 weeks back, lots of peckers, as soon a i did that i had some decent runs.

Glad to see the Super J's and the lip grip working for you there.

But its always good to catch some fish at a new venue, shows you are using knowledge you have gained. Again your 20kgmfish cant be 2 far away now.

I fished near there in the week and the grass carp heads got pick ups within a couple of seconds but all small fish, biggest being 6.6kg. Also got a hit on the roepstok in the river seemed like a decent fish, but only the one hit
