So my beloved Fortuna was stolen and the bastards

I traded in my 3.0 Isuzu double cab for a 2.2 Ford Ranger double cab - almost been a year of driving pleasure.

The power in the Ford is just something else - recently drove up from PE to Nelspruit, awesome drive with a very reasonable fuel consumption

Did a lot of research at the time - the FORD was by far the best value for money, and, in terms of power, definately a leader in it's class!

Glad you enjoying your vehicle , if only the 3.2 was as reliable as the 2.2 appears to be my order would of been in already :(

I would like to just pass a comment on my experience in recent past.
I wont mention name of vehicles as for cause of bad advertising .
Just with two diesel vehicles I went throw a two turbos , one inter-cooler , cracked manifold , injectors  and other small things.
Since  last diesel vehicle I owned - petrol is my only option today.  The higher consumption is still better then inconvenience being stuck with family and trailer behind  , being without vehicle  for weeks , fighting with dealer and so on.
So I gave up on hi torque and 1000 km range , happy with lower torque and 450 km range with absolutely no hassles.

hi

i have the fortuner and the 3.2 ranger 4x4.
just blew my engine on 25,000 km on the ranger. im not the only one. have had 5 people in my town having the same problem. its my own personal vehicle, not given to anyone to drive and i never hammer it.
all in all, great bakkie, loads of power. but will never buy one again.
im in a legal battle with ford at the moment, they want to replace the engine and i want a new bakkie.
i didnt pay 400k for a vehicle to be returned to me after it been 6 months old and now with a new engine , lying stripped in a workshop with an appy working on it.

highly regret not sticking to toyota and isuzu which is what i always owned.

but on a lighter note....some guys have done almost a 100 000km on their rangers and still no problems

Did the water hose go causing the problem and engine failure?

hi Bennie

no idea. the guy at ford said that that hose problem is the most common fault they have.

as for mine....went to fill up, was heading to melmoth. guy fills the tank, checks the oil water and pressure. finds white slime on the dipstick, opens the radiator cap and brown sludge....almost like pro nutro porridge looking just oozes out the water bottle.

take it to ford, they just say engine blown and they want to replace the engine with a new one.

i have a meeting with them tomorrow to discuss the way forward with them wanting to fix and me wanting a replacement bakkie

I have had the 2.2 for a year now and love it. My Navara had 90k on the clock and the clutch and turbo needed to have major work so traded in for the Ford and am very happy. The 2.2 is the way to go!

This is interesting. Info taken from 4x4 community.

I've been lucky enough to belong to angling clubs that have tractors to launch my boat. So i've only ever had smaller sedans to tow my boat to the club.

I'm now looking at purchasing the new Ford ranger 2.2 xls with the specific idea of towing and launching my boat at sodwana and mozambique in the near future.

Not having had a 2x4 or 4x4 before would the 2x4 be sufficient to launch the boat, considering the huge price difference between the two vehicles.

The 2.2 is a good choise, but beach launching you will need a 4x4. You will struggle luanching with a 2x4, expecially if the sand is softer and/or you need to pull the boat away from the water. I go to Moz alot and will defenatly not lainch with a 2x4.

Koop n Cruiser
Great idee enigste probleem hy kos dubbel soveel.

Hou vier keer langer as n Ford.

Sterkte.

I read every detail of this post and like you owned a 280TD 1977, still in excellent nick and my son uses it every day. The engine has never given an ounce of trouble and we sitting on 680 000km.

So I sell my trusty V6 colt 4x4 beach vehicle and I got my heart set on the 3.2 4x4 double cab with all the bells and whistles.

My wife says, "you going to be sorry"!

There is a happy ending, I bought the new 3 litre Isuzu 4x4 twincab with all the gadgets. Test drive proved just as much acceleration as the ford, better fuel consumption and plenty space inside. Man!..this things a beast.

Moral of the story:- Don't think too much, ask the wife, the new Fortuna will just get stolen again.
