got washed away that time I got klapped by the wave at Voel klip... Rob managed to recover it. I tend to leave a lot of fishing stuff at Robs place after a session (he ends up washing my tackle for me

Hey Casper
first off.
Ok to answer about the chiller if you go back to my first post you will see that I never built this thing to compete against a Safari or similar type chiller, those have no comparison.
What I wanted was a LIGHT chiller that fitted on my H frame snugly and could perform a number of functions...
if I am fishing of the bricks for eds, then this chillar is obviously too big for bait. But I can then pack my food and drinks etc in it as well with the partition that just slips in place. If on the beach it can take big frozen baits as well for in-eds. I normally fish with a buddy and we will take turns carting the chiller around. Again its big enough for two even three peoples baits when scratching (but very heavy for the guy doing the carrying. I still want to build a smaller version for scratching alone. this thing is light enough to carry all day but the large space inside with small amounts of bait mean they do defrost quicker.
As for performance, I think I mentioned that we packed this thing chok full one day planning on going for in-eds. but we also took another smaller chiller for scratching if the water looked good. As said we decided to scratch instead and left this chiller in the back of the bakkie (with canopy) in the baking sun the whole day. At the end of the day the baits inside were still frozen solid.
So this chiller wont keep baits frozen for 3-4 days that I have heard claimed from the safari guys but it will do its job as a one box just fine. bearing in mind a number of things. the more you open a chiller the more cold air escapes and the more warm air enters. When a chiller is packed full to the brim of frozen bait and not opened then it will have to be a really crappy box to not keep it frozen on the beach, but even an 18 L safari chiller will battle to keep just 2 frozen sardines frozen all day with nothing else inside the box...
This box has done its job for me (keeping things cold one day at a time). Packed normally with bait after a full day my bait is not frozen solid but still ice cold and frozen in the middle (even after repeatedly opening the box and occasionally leaving the lid off for long periods). I treat it roughly but it handles the beatings. we were fishing off VoelKlip a big rock here in Herolds Bay when a huge wave just about knocked me off the rocks. Needless to say my kit went along with the wave... My buddy managed to recover the box that had been taken across the bricks with no damaged. I am certain a safari chiller would have been nicely cracked.
