We left JHB Wednesday full of aspiration to try and fish new places. My excitement was short lived when we reached pietermaritzburg, just to be stuck in traffice for almost 2 hours, where a truck from the opposite lane crash landed into oncoming traffic.
After a nice scenic drive through Pinetown, peacevale, 1000 hills, detour we finally reached our destination at 9:30 pm. This was a 8 hour drive.
I bought bait at John LOOMES ( tighline fisheries ) (rivonia) before we left, and that started to melt..
Unpacking the bait was mission because the freezer was to small for all the yellow tail and chokka . I had to buy ice pack to try and keep the bait frozen as possible.
The Thursday morning we went to exchange my rod tip which was bend at kingfisher in Durban . With the new rod of we went to Rapsons, a place a wanted try for a long time, but on my second cast with a 9 once I snapped my rod in 5 places. We packed up and went back to kingfisher again. This time they have exchange my rod for another rod with a thicker wall. Hopefully this one will hold.
The whole day fishing was lost and went out Thursday night to Chaka’s rocks. Here I had some luck and I redeemed my bad luck with a nice 110cm ( +/- 19 kg ORI) black tip. After that it went quit for a while.
Friday we went to Tinly manor high rocks slide out some nice yellow tail heads, whole chokka, nothing, again. My wife had a jol with the live’s so I decided to join her, just to quench my thirst for fishing.
VERY FEW THINGS BEATS THE BEAUTY OF MY WIFE WITH A ROD IN HER HAND.
Saturday morning 4:30 we where of the Sheffield beach another new place for me to try. Slid out a whole chokka which took 15 min in the water and “ONâ€. I just knew that this was big fish, the way it ran my spool right into the braid, before I could stop him. 30 min later I was cut off by the reef.
Saturday after noon about 1 o clock we went back to chakas rock, to see if I can hook into another black tip or 2. At one stage there was 12 rods in the water with different kinds of bait and still nothing. The water was so clear that we saw close to a 5 meter shark right on the rocks were we where fishing. I packed up at 8 o’clock and as I was cleaning my rod I picked up that there was blue bottle tails on my line.
I am not the expert but I have heard fish don’t bite with blue bottles in the water.
