Since I have changed my favourite fishing spot to Orange Rocks, Uvongo - it's about time that the rocks, gets it's own independent report.

I look forward to contributing a day-to-day report on weather, conditions, fish caught, tackle used, bait used and all the other kak that us fisherfolk like to chat about.

My fishing  buddy,  Algy, who has joined Sealine under the nickname "South Coast Fishing" takes tons of photographs and has many, many years of experience and a wealth of local knowledge to share. So between us, we are gonna rock this report.

Here is a photo taken early one morning at Orange Rocks, by Algy, that about sums up the natural beauty that drives fisherman to be up-and-at-it, whilst most of the world is still sleeping.

Like much of our coastline, the rocks are most productive after three days of NE wind.

The modus operandi is to fish for a shad or something small to use as live bait and then to slide for Kob, Garrick, Yellow Tail, Kingfish, Couta and the many other game fish that are targeted.

Now enough talk, let's see some fish.

Sounds good, will get my mate who lives in Margate to look into this as he battling to do fishing in the area. Think he needs a fishing buddy. Is it safe at Orange Rock???

Hi Eric - There is an open parking lot, where you can see your cars from where you fish.

There are houses across the road, so it's as safe as possible, in SA.

I have fished there alone before it's light and I have never had problems.

Hi all the sea is a mess this morning here at Orange rocks, another few days and it might settle

Another few days....BOO HOO..... = withdrawals, cold shivers, pacing up and down, checking the wind report 50 times per day and lying on the grass in foetal position hugging my rod and rocking gently, whilst humming the theme song to star wars.

Eish...it's heart breaking. Its not looking any better over the next few days, there is a bit of a NE today but a 24knt sw tomorrow NE coming through again of Friday morning.

At least the swell is reported to be dropping a bit over the next few days.

I went past Ramsgate the day before yesterday, but the shorebreak was just too big to even try.

Stay tuned...the big fish are coming when we least expect it.

Ok Boys....the conditions are not perfect...but I heard that some fish are starting to come out here and there.

I am going down tomorrow morning at 2:am.


First thing is to slide a nice BIG squid that I have.

(while I fish for Shad and other live bait)

Then slide some Mackerel and hopefully a live shad, by the time the sun comes up.

Wish me luck...... I will be thinking of all of you.

ooops...I overslept. We have family as well as my good buddy Sandor visiting us and we drank a bit too much last night.

So bumbed, but we are on our way down now to St Mikes to see what whats hungry.

At least I can take my camera and get some photos, I am too scared to take it when I fish alone.

Heard that the water is clearing up there..any news on where bronze brim have been coming out as i intend to fish the area tomorrow?

Howzit. I blanked today, but we were fishing at a Family beach, rather than at the rocks.

We are going down tomorrow morning at 2:30.

Yes, Maestro, the water is alot better, was still a bit brown today, but at least the peckers were active, which pumped up my ambition for something bigger.

If you are on the coast and you are hunting bronzies, the try Ski Boat Club beach in Ramsgate. (coming from Margate its go past Ramsgate main beach and look for a guest house called "Bills Best" turn right opposite Bills Best and you will get to a nice bay.

Fish the far right hand side, off the ledges. There is a story of a HUGE brusher that demolishes bait and traces, that you must keep in mind for when you are targeting bronzies.

Put 2 prawns on your hook at a time, make it a big fat juicy bait.

If you don't come right there, then go down to Trafalgar. Park at the main beach and walk right to the old tidal pool and throw out directly from there.

A guy caught a 22kg kingfish there a few weeks ago, on a prawn and ultra light rig.

Well an uneventful day, unfortunately.

We went down to the rocks just after 3am, hoping for a man size catch of shad for breakfast and something to slide.

The water was still pretty brown, with the Northerly wind not helping much.

But after 2 weeks of heavy swell and unfishable conditions, we were excited and all amped up, just to get a bait in the water.
 
I slid a whole mackerel as soon as I got there, hoping for the best. Every time there was even a small pull from the waves and I heard that racket, I was convinced that I was in luck.

But alas.

No shad or even a decent bite from anything on the shad stick and after throwing 20 sards, I gave up and put all my attention on the slide rig.

Oom Piet and Johnny arrived just before 5 and he caught a very small grey on a shad bait, which was released none worse for wear.

They gave up after an hour or so of no bites and we were left there praying, hoping and dying for a rev.

Algy and his wife came down for a squizz and he taught me a much better way to get your dead bait out on the slide, by putting your rods butt on the floor and shaking, as opposed to shaking it from your bucket.

Just after 10am we called it a day, with ambitions of going down tonight to take advantage of the very warm water after this scorcher of a day.

I managed to get a few photos, but my white balance was out and the daylight pics came out blue, but you can still get the idea.
