HI Shane.

I broke the drought yesterday at The rocks hooking a stumpy. It was size and tasted good grilled.

The sea was magnificant and I feel sorry for the guys inland when we have such a beautiful evening.

The sea looks a bit upset today but we must give it a go.

Are we all going to mobilise on this licence thing, any ideas. i believe the fishing shops are getting petitions together.

Howzit - yea, lets hope for better conditions today. It looks like the wind has died down and I am on my way down now.

Christo and his Dad are on their way and Clint-O might make the trek from up north.

 I am going fishing, enjoy your day friends and stick it to the govt, by going and buying a new licence before the price goes up.

Alt least that way we will have a full year to plan a proper rebellion.

Good to see the photos of Orange rocks. Two nights ago was one of the more pleasant evenings we have had for a long time. More people should come down and enjoy the sights. Sorry still no fish.

Hi Guys,

  Christo and I fished for most of the weekend, in difficult conditions on Friday, that improved a bit on Saturday and teased us on Sunday, with an extra low tide in the morning.


Unfortunately we don't have tales of the big one, but I would gladly exchange any size fish for the wealth of knowledge and experience that he so generously shared with me.

If you wanna fish with a guy that does it right every time, Christo is your guy. No corners are cut and it's best effort all the way. (all the way.....like the 160m+ cast....jeepers)  I kept a hungry eye on all of his little tricks and the top of my shopping list are cable ties for securing the mackerel onto the hooks and toothpicks with a plastic ball on the end for keeping the bottom hook nice and proud.

Riaan, got three pickups and lost all three in the breakwater. One of them was a shark, very brown....possibly a ragbag.  The other 2 sucked and descaled his bait for 15 minutes before gently running and then spitting the bait. (we speculated that it was a flat fish)

Interesting thing, is that he was fishing with small glowsticks attached to his bait and he got all three pickups.

Christo got a pickup on Sunday morning, but no hookup.


Congrats to Brian65, for a nice stumpy. It's been a while since one of those has come out.

On Saturday afternoon, we had a total jol on the rocks with some guys from Pretoria that were here to swim the midmar mile.

It was a full party underway, with waves breaking over us, getting regular soakings and laughing and joking around for hours and hours, whist we worked our way through a good few bottles of brandy and rum. (I got the scar to prove it...lol)

I managed to recruit them all to Sealine, so guys when you read this....thanks for an excellent day, it really was great fun.


I am fishing at Port Shepstone, early tomorrow morning, while my wife has a driving lesson. Just a quick one, but I should catch the high tide at 6am, in time to slide a flapped mackerel, soaked in anchovy oil....on the nice slide trace that Christo made for me.

Andre from Lucky's in Margate caught this massive Guitar Fish  (79.9kg) at Drive in Bay, this weekend. (I think that I am going to become his new tail and follow him around a bit.... not that he has been fishing much lately.  I chatted to him the other day and he suggested that I try Beacon Rocks, in Manaba)

And Algy caught this nice Tuna on Protea banks, this weekend. Doing it in style Mnr !!

So that's about a wrap  for the fishing this weekend.

I am so looking forward to fishing tomorrow morning and feeling that feeling above all feelings......ON DAD !!

Hi Guys, I just got back from Port Shepstone, where I had a quick session off the block. As I was tagging along and could not call the shots, we only got there at 7am.

I had a nice pickup and run, but so, so unfortunately got burnt off.

There was a very strong current and I was fishing right in the rip so the line was quite tight in the water. I gave it plenty play, but my sinker was vas, vas.

Now I am doubly, triply excited and want to down again now....but I gotta work.

Eish that R91 million powerball would have been nice.

Thanks for a leka weekend,nice to finaly meet you.My dad was fishing Orange rocks this morning and got this nice bigggg shad.Looks like the fish only bites when we not there hehehehehehehe.

Good to read about "O Rocks" whenever I'm down in that part of the world I spend many hours there, wave permitting.

Sard run time its a bit like a circus there but I suppose thats the same all down the coast. Had some spectacular bust ups there and a few emptying of my GW 50. I think there are some busses in that deep water.

I fished off the beach at Shelley Beach last night. Slid a massive mackerel, soaked in anchovie oil.

8oz sinker, .55 Double X line and .75 leader, with a nylon coated wire leader on that. Diiachi hooks, power swivels and gremlins super slide.

I was fishing with Jackals and Shaun ( a guy, from JHB that I met on the beach.) and I was super amped for a fish.

I got my bait out at 8:15 on an outgoing tide and 15 minutes later I got a pick up. Gentle at first and then he took off.

He almost stripped all 350 meters of line that I had on my grandwave 50. I made a resolution, then and there, that whatever it took, I would get some money together for a braid backing. Jeepers that guy took off at a pace and I had to really put my back into it to not go waterski'ng to backline.

After I put some pressure on him and he turned around, he started shaking his head and I really thought that if he took off again that he would strip all my line.

It took me the best 1 hour and 37 minutes, of my life, to get him just behind the shorebreak and then the the worst possible thing happened, my leader popped.

I just stood there and had to fight back the tears for a few moments.

We stayed at Jackals's place overnight and I had a quick throw at 6 this morning. Then the wife went and passed her drivers in P. Shepstone, which makes me a free man.

I don't even want to speculate what it was, it was too dark to see and it did not breach the water, to the best of my knowledge.

One thing for certain is that I am going to take Jackals up on his "my house is your house" offer and fish there often.

Oh the joys of having a beach front property...... walk off your stoep, across your lawn and onto Shelley Beach.

All nighters..... here I come.

Heya PH, sorry you lost that fish dude.

Why don't you step up the leader to 1mm seeing as you are fishing .55 mono, with a two leg strand bimini on your main line(.55 x 2) will roughly suit the 1mm leader, your knot strength might be better and you have the abrasiveness of a 1mm leader.

Was it definitely a head shake you felt there cos sometimes when hooked into a big skate with the fish swimming away from you the wing flaps on your trace feeling like an edible, hey could have been an edible, huge kob, kingie....who knows, keep trying buddy your day is near.

Hey Dingo .... funny you say that because the other guys said that it was either a skate or huge kob, as it liked to give me some slack when it changed direction.

I used a bimini with three legs, tied with a double figure eight to the leader. I tested it with might and it held..... but he really gave me a good pull.

I tied the leader at home and actually thought that it was the best one that I had ever seen. I suppose that every fisherman experiences a popped leader at some stage.

I just feel sorry for the guy swimming around with a hook n trace dangling from him, it upsets me to think about it.

I am gonna have to go back tonight and catch him to remove the hook. That Diiachi is not gonna rust soon.:spite

Howzit Christo - Yea I did. Double X .55 Very Nice, well polished. German made !!

Also gave the grandwave a mini service and replaced one of the springs. Running smooth as can be.

I put on 350 meters and left the rest for next time..... this time with a 300m braid backing.
