You can watch your car, which is a big bonus. The area is well lit up with a flood light at night.

Here is one that Algy snapped, about to slide my second Mackerel.

A moment of not concentrating earlier, cost me my entire trace of a leader, slide and 2 Diiachi hooks on nylon coated wire, as well as a brand new 8oz grapnel - and a Mackerel....R60 bucks worth....eish.

Here is take 2.

Oh well... that's the game.

Potholes to the left. An excellent place to throw a spoon for a garrick.

(if you look closely, you will see 2 dudes there, fishing very dangerously.  PS...if you fish at Potholes, DONT go and walk out on the ledge to cast. If you cant make the distance, don't risk your life)

My new, second hand rod.  It used to be Robs from Gremlins rod, he sold it to Patrick and I bought it from him. It has the distinct honour of being the rod, with which Rob caught his biggest fish of all time.

With my Grandwave 50, she is one mean casting machine.

Hi Guys n Girls.

I just got back from OR.

I went down at 4:30 and slid a Mackerel as soon as I got there and then tried my best to catch a shad for live bait.

Lets put it this way.....still no shad...or caranteen, or pinkie or even blacktail.

That's how dead it was.

I did get one or 2 small inquiries, but nothing bigger than a pecker.

My first Mackerel got hollowed out, so the second one, I wrapped with chokka and ran a piece of christmas tinsel down the length of it.

After a few more hours, I was ready to go home, due to running our of water and forgetting sunblock.

My friend Ernest, then got a nice knock, but unfortunately when he tightened and assumed the position, he realised that he had been bitten off.

He had a cast bait of a bonny belly, with a nice big plastic squid skirt. 6 mt leader, with wire.

Not even 30 seconds after he lost it, my ratchet started screaming and I literally dropped my shad stick on the floor and attended to my screaming mistress.

I tightened up the drag and did what I had to do to feel some oomph. As soon as I knew that I had him, I struck a few times and then gave it a little slack, just in case he wanted to run.

Bang.... I had him vas.

He gave me a bit of a rev in the beginning, but he gave up as soon as he was in the shorebreak and he was easily brought into the gully, towards the ledge that we use to land the bigger fish. About 15 minutes, from a distance of about 180 meters.

As soon as he got close and I saw the fin, I knew.....Shark.

I had a moment of inedible regret, but knew that I was being rewarded for my patience and I said my prayer for his safe release and brought him in a gently as I could.

I did not have a camera with me, but when I picked him up ....he measured the length of my body, till just under my armpit.

Estimated about 12-14kg.

When he was landed, we retrieved, Ernest's trace from his mouth and we released him to fight another day.

It was so nice to see the smile on Ernests face, when he got his favourite trace back.

After giving my thanks to the Lord for my bounty, I packed it up and went home for some rehydration and an ice cold Black Label Quart, I had stashed away in my bar fridge.

We are going down again at 5, to see if anything has come closer to shore.

Oh ja, remember that I said that I lost 2 slides yesterday....well, when we got there this morning I found 2 slides and 8 power swivels and 6 hooks.

As well as a pack of chokka and 8 hand size mullet.

The guys that were fishing there the night before, were either very rich or drunk.

Oh well, it was so nice to cancel out my tackle loss from the day before.

What a blessed and precious privilege we have to be able to share our days with good friends, the ocean and her creatures .... and lot's and lot's of sunshine.

I am so stoked, that I am buzzing. I just can't stop smiling and I can't wait to go down again.

Stay tuned, as there is lot's more to come.

Hi Guys. I was down this morning, but no action at all.

There were a few small mullet around, which makes me think that the fish are returning.

A solid NE that is forecasted for the next few days, will warm the water up and bring the moz current closer to the shore.

Lets see what tomorrow morning brings.

I was down this morning and the water was perfect. Its really cleaned up nicely.

We had tons of Red Eye's in the water and once or twice I could see a big fish in the water, but they were not interested in our bait or spoons.

I had a Mackerel ourton slide for a few hours and then Algy, pitched up with a daisy chain type of lure trace.

He was pulling them in 2-3-5- at a time and everybody went home with some nice fresh, Red Eyes for tomorrow morning.

He says that if he got there earlier, we would have all filled up our bait boxes.... and at R7.50 / fish, that's a nice bonus.

I am most definitely going down to Gremlins and gonna buy a few of those lures to keep for days like this. A freezer full of  FREE IQF, bait - is my idea of heaven....even more so than a fridge full of beers.

A box of sards, 3 Mackerel and R20 petrol, gets expensive, if you fish every day and Free bait is Free Money.

I put a live  Red Eye, out on slide and had a knock, but no hookup..... the second one did not get touched.

The NE has come up and we are looking forward to some good fishing on Thursday morning.

Here is a photo of Algy, with a few of the Red Eyes.

http://www.windreport.co.za/wg_margate.php

I find this report the most reliable, but its not looking too bad. The spring high, is the biggest challenge.

I have a meeting from 12 - 1: 30 and then I am amped.

Looking at the tide, from 10pm onwards will also be a good time to hit it.

Please PM me your cell number.
