you may want to go with 80lb Viper Braid or JigMan X8 as they have a different color every 10m so you can guage how deep you drop jigs vs where fish are hovering on fishfinder
100 - 130lb Tuff braid will pull most fish up!

Gerhard... nice rod apparently... RoyBoy has got one too.
Tuffline braid is good, but Whiplash pro is the best for it's diameter. Tuffline is almost double the thickness of Whiplash...
This is important on a Spinning reel... 80lb Whiplash braid will get you about 200m only on a 6000 size reel! Thats not a heck of a lot of line to play with! Using Tuffline... you'll get about 120m on the same reel... There's no room for error here... it's hit and hold!
Dunno the Abu reels very well tho', so I dunno about them...

October. But it was really wierd,we did not get a single GT under 10kg or over 20kg! In one morning i landed 23 of these fish! I must have caught more than 150 of them when we were there, i released them all though. I had a light rod with 6kg line that i even used but it would take for ever to land them on this setup, and 9 times out of 10 they would break me off when they run under the ship.....

Hi Gerhard, I have the same rod. Well built and at a good price. I can't report back on it yet, because I ahven't fished it..... a few more weeks and then I can give constructive input. I have heard very few horror stories about it, most reports have been favorable.
Charles Stewart has caught many fish on it (including a few fair sized doggies)and is very happy with it's performance.
My feeling is that it will be great for smaller to medium sized reef fish, but will be undergunned if trying for bigger specimens, as it will have a problem cranking and holding biggies away from structure.
My view is that if the rod breaks, it provides an excuse to upgrade to something along Ocea Blue Rose.
On mine, I have a Penn Torque 300 spooled with Ande 80lb braid.

I have one and friends of mine have a few. I am yet to land a fish obn mine, but my mates use theirs in kenya all the time. They have the med heavy as well but use trinidads and torsa's or toriums on them. They have landed Gt's to 45kgs on them, yesterday got YFT to 30kgs, numerous amberjack etc so they do hte job well as far as I am concerned.
Gerhard - Have you met or been in touch with Nick from Ocean Active up around Musandam? If not, try www.oceanactive.com and get some advise on lures etc from him...
Bear in mind that te Musandam GT's are considered the toughest GT's on the planet..... big, mean, heavy fish that will annihilate most set ups... I know Nick and crew are fishing mainly 130lb braid and anything up to 400lb bite leaders on to twisted leaders in the 130lb range and getting $1000 dollar rods smashed like toothpicks by the bigger fish.....
Get your A$$ in the gym before you go!! And make sure you take LOTS of pics!!

I have spoken to Nick a couple of times on the phone. I am not sure what their set up is but they get stuck into monsters every season.
With the start of the cooler (no winter) season its also the start of the fishing season. I know they have landed a 40Kg + GT this season and lost one next to the boat that they guesstemated to be 55Kg's +
At this stage I will be just happy to get line in the water and play with the 25kg Dorrado's or the Cuta's thats also been coming out...

38 kilos, taken on a stickbait.....Yip, on a surface lure, casting....
Would LOVE to have heard that Stella SCREAM when that Couta took off on her first run!!!
The uys had hectic windy conditions, but got a number of GT's to 33 kilos, and a fair number of smaller ones in the 10 kilo range..... Also snapped a high end rod on a 10 kilo GT that hit right at the boatside and sounded straight down and the angler, fairly new tom popping didn't react quickly enough and she ended up with a rod in 3 pieces.... OUCH!
