Hi guys

What your you guys thoughts be if one had to collect plenty red bait after a storm and stock up in the bait freezer.

1. How long can red bait be frozen before it goes off?
2. Does frozen red bait work just as well?
3. Do you have more success on frot, fresh or frozen red bait for Galjoen

Please add your thoughts with regards to this. All tips and advise welcome

Thank you

Don't forget to leave a 1/3 of the red bait on the rock it will grow again.
You can test out both out rotten or fresh - I caught on both rotten and fresh red bait Stump noses at Richards bay. Why do you want to freeze it if you can get daily red bait ?

Howsit.

I don't really wanna cut off the rocks. I prefer collecting them as soon as they wash out on the beach.

Also you don't really wanna go hunt for bait every day. I prefer making a day out of it. Like worm, mussel, red bait. Then I know I'm stocked up.

Was just wondering if the bait can still be used once frozen and if it's still affective.

Cheers

It worked in Cape town - The locals do freeze their red bait as they had to get up early in the morning and there is no time to look for red bait. Hotties could not resist the redbait and the person using red bait had the best catch of all the crew members. Happened during 1st week of May.   I was there on vaction and our one day outing was to go for Hottentot.

This is what I do. Cut the red bait out and put in a suitable container. I use a 5l one. Let it stand and simmer in its own juices for 3 days more or less. Keep it out of the sun and rain and fresh water. Drain the juice and add a cup/handful of coarse salt and half a cup/handful of brown sugar to the red bait and mix. Let it stand for another day. Drain again and then pack your bait and freeze in suitable containers. The salt preserves it and the sugar keeps it soft. I have used it months later. While at the beach I usually look for washed out red bait as well just to have a variety.
