Popping in False bay

Gondo - Welcome to the site mate.
As Dorado has mentioned, you could try for Leeries at Sandvlei and Strand, but with a ripple fisher, you'd be SERIOUSLY overkill!!!
Ripple Fishers are some of the toughest sticks on the planet, and the most beautifully made too, and would make VERY short work of anything inshore.....
You could get out and chase some Yellowtail, either from Rooikrans within the Cape Point Nature reserve, or better yet, try get yourself on a charter and go throwing poppers and spoons for Yellowtail..... I don' think you'll find a big enough yellowtail to really test your RF in these waters, but it would be lekker to break her in....
Next bet would be charter offshore nd go chuck poppers/stick baits for Yellowfin in the deep.....That will test your rod for sure!!

Ripple fisher has a full range and having been involved in the field testing of their rods I have gone with the lightest popping rod they make - they have incredible power and popping for sailfish on the lightest model was no issue. The agent for Asia Richard Foong is a buddy and he drove the development of these rods - we take the test rods out for GT and see how they fare up - if you classed mine it would be a PE5 rated to throw up to 150 gram lures - Aquila 76 HH - We lifted a 30 kg weight with the first test rods no issue though. It is not overkill as with the bigger rods or jigging rods as still has a sensitive mid and tip section - gone are the days of carpenter and stella 10,000's - this is the future no doubt. Yellow fin would be excellent sport but they are hard to come bye in Asia so only really GT , sail fish and spanish M in this part of the world.

I will study a map and see if I can pick up where you guys suggested. Would love to go out on a boat but the charter prices I have seen are ludicrous.I have a range of new poppers made by Ahdek out of Bali that I need to test so the more fishing the better - do you know of any good spots around the other side of the bay - boulders area maybe ?

SOunds like an awesome set up.... Would love to have a look if you have time while you're in Cape Town.... Sounds like a perfect Yellowtail and Longfin popping outfit.
I like the sound of the sensitive tip, much better for working stickbaits such as Smith Baby Runboh's, Mangrove Studio Voladors, Satiga Sliders etc, especially for tuna and Yellow tail.....
Defintely familiar with Ripple Fisher.... from afar only as despite being a tackle wh0re, I haven't yet managed to imagine fitting on into my budget yet..... Carpenters, Smiths, Tuna Max and JigStars I have.... but not Ripple Fishers.... yet! ;-)
Defintely let me know when you are here, can't promise any boat trips, but might be able to work out something, and I'd love to have a look at that rod.... and those new Adheks as well if possible.
Regarding areas to fish..... Boulders area won't really deliver up much on the popping front.... your best bet Shorebased is Rooikranz clifss in the Point Nature reserve, and keep an eye on the reports here and see if the Yellowtail have moved up into the bay at all, and where the guys are spinning for them...

I'll be coming to Capetown on Wednesday... I always do Rooikrans for Yellowtail as well as Sandvlei for Leeries.
Also, when the tail come into False Bay, Fishoek in the mornings and Simonstown along the railway track at High tide can be fruitful.
i'd be glad to join you this holiday for a trip.

I saw a few guys spinning on the railway line close to Simonstown but not sure about the security there on my own.
Greig - any idea when you might head up to Rooikrans ?. Gotta get up there - guys tell me quite a hike to get down to the ledges ? I have been told there is a car park there and a few paths - can you guys give me some directions down pls ?
Are there specific times when the ledges are productive ?
