Thanks Pasta

have been waiting for a post like this for ages.

Please can you explain how you proceed from rigging the mullet to getting it out into the sea.

I assume you obviously cast the grapnel sinker out and wait for it to set.

then you attach the slide to your line.

now do you let the mullet swim out until it gets to the stopper? do you have to try and slide it out by wiggling your rod or will the mullet swim out.

is the slide a returnable or non returnable?

thanks for your help.

You must remember to attached leader to your main line. We put 8 to 9 meter of 0.90 mm leader on our main line.

We shake the rod for about 5 min.

Reason: you want your slide as near as possible to the stopper.

Some times your mullet is half way in and then you get a pickup.

Most of the time when something like this happen and you strike you will get burned off. When your slide reaches the leader you are in a better position to bring your fish out.

Info: If you get picked up and your slide is half way in. DON’T STRICK.

Keep your rod horizontal to the beach and real in as fast as possible, to insure that your slide has reached your stopper. Then you lift up your rod and make sure if the fish is there. Then you strike.

Thanks Pasta.

I take it then it is a non return slide?

Do you know what the differences are between non return and a swimming slide?

HI Pasta,

Missed your reply.

I have used this a number of times and works really well of piers or rocks with deeper water or when the waves break past the rocks.

Have also used of the beach when there is a small swell and deep gully close in.

Basically all you do is take one of the big wooden floats (you get them in red/white/yellow).

I am horrible at drawing, but will try and explain using the traces you just described.

Complete the traces as you explained above, but do not attach your clip.

Slide the "bung" onto the leader part of your trace. Ensure that you place some beads on both sides to protect your knots!!

Connect your trace to your mainline/leader with double figure of 8.

The bung can now freely slide up and down your trace, but is stopped by the fig of 8 and will keep your bait swimming in the upper water collumn. the depth will be varied according to the length of your primary trace!

I have seen garrick and big kingies taken with this method. We also used it very succesfully with torpedo scads in R Bay harbour targeting sharks (then you use steel!!)
