The main singer of Midnight Oil Peter Garrett eventually became minister for the environment here in Australia.
All his concerns for the environment went right out of the window once he slid into that cushy $250 000 per year job. He was in charge of some atrocious decisions.

Add money to people in power and all that idealism magically disappears.

Ja jong, I think he's band mates were pretty pissed off with him and many fans as well. You would have thought that he would have done something about these Australian mines running riot here in Africa, I was hoping he was going to.

And that is unfortunately with half decent people.. We have in our case people with fully corrupt characters, blinded by big money..eish. And big hungry aussie corporations fronting for chinese feeding the fire. Ja who knows if anyone cares about any petitions, but any awareness is good at this stage.

...Permits, who needs permits, we know #1 and that is permit enough..that is the problem. Along with mineral rights and its law and the massive state land-ownership there is a whole bigger picture that one little petition is not going to touch but it does start with us.

One little petition may not help but here is an update, the first time an environmentalist has been murdered in this country they say..Sad. I hope the death is not in vain and the land is saved. Great that #1 is getting nailed on all fronts, SA will be much better off with those gangsters out of positions of power.

Good thing the courts put a stop to this! And created precedent that affects all of us. The minerals dept. is already trying to make trouble outside of the law and trying to hint at referendum etc. but in reality they only have a few more days to appeal or else it is set in stone and that means fracking, coal, chrome, gold etc. industries are in for a wake up.if minerals are found on your land then Gov' cannot just shove you off and license off to the highest bidder (or back pocket liner)to mine which is pretty much what has been happening for the last 100 years or more.

And rightly so, it is pretty unjust to kick a man off his land so you can get someone to mine the minerals under his feet and take your cut, "for the greater good". Not dissimilar to what America did to the islanders of Bikini and surrounding islands after the second world war testing nukes in their backyard and moving them out, "all for the greater good of mankind" or for profits depending on how you look at it.
