Just a heads up on what I have noticed over the past few weeks , after doing follow ups on clients that have fitted Axle Mate through boat shops
Most had lateral play on the wheels and on inspection i had foud that the washer(between castle nut and bearing) , was not there. IE the bearing was being placed under direct load and wear and tear by the nut.
THIS IS A MAJOR NO NO , the washer has to be there.
I did bring it to the relevant shops attention
At another dealer I went and replaced a broken circlip on an AXLE mate that was about three years old(ex Mozam)
I was shown the old bearings and they were VERY badly rusted , but still running. I was kinda given the third degree as "surely the AXLE MATES should prevent this"
I asked to have a look at the AXLE's journals. The hubs were already in place with new bearings and seals fitted. I was given long stories why they did not want to , but, i insisted.
To say that the journals were F**ked is understatement. The boat was going back to mozam , and i would have been surprised if those new seals would have lasted to Umhlanga from DBN
They ended up replacing the axle.
The fact that the boats owner had the ability to grease the bearings, en route with a grease gun , via the AXLE MATE grease nipples and spring loaded piston , got him to DBN. If that ability was not there he would have had colapsed wheel bearings before he left Mozam
Trust the above of assistance
